Black and white taxis are available from the airport to central Cairo. They leave from outside the Arrivals hall, and will cost around USD 12 to the hotel. The hotel can arrange transport with 48 hours prior notice. An airport bus service operates from Terminal 1 (Old Airport). Bus service 400 leaves approximately every 30 minutes during the day and every hour at night. The inexpensive metro system is one of the best ways to explore Cairo. Buses and minibuses are still the most common form of transport for Cairenes, although taxis are a better option for visitors. Boats depart frequently for University, a landing over on the Giza side of the river. Every second boat continues south to Manial, Rhoda, Giza and Masr al Qadima (old Cairo).
Driving directions: From the airport, follow Oroba Street to the end and then take the flyover (6th of October Bridge). After the bridge, exit into Tahrir Square.
Distances are calculated as the crow flies, and are provided as an aid in planning only.
