Porsgrunn developed in the 1650s as skiens port thanksmostly to its favourable location and good harbour. Thehistory of the hotel goes back to 1825 when consulj.S.Gasman rebuilt his elegant residence after a major fire.This part is still here today, together with a newer sectionbuilt in 1956.
