Gladstone's Land
Completed in 1620, Gladstone's Land is a typical example of an Edinburgh Old Town tenement.
From the windows, successive occupants have witnessed the procession of Scottish history along the Kingis Hie Street: Charles I en route to his coronation at Holyrood Palace in 1633; the arrival of Bonnie Prince Charlie and his troops in 1745; and the visit of George IV in 1822. Take time to view the fine pictures and period furniture, and don't forget to look up to admire the remarkable painted ceilings. You can even enjoy a 17th-century retail experience in the restored 'luckenbooth' cloth shop. And for the 21st-century shopper, our extended Gift Shop offers a wide range of quality merchandise.
