The Museum of Discovery is a collecting institution, meaning that we acquire and hold artifacts that are relevant to our mission statement. The Museum contains approximately 14,000 artifacts, which can be grouped into two major categories: Life/Earth Science and Anthropological/Historical objects.
Life/Earth Science Artifacts include preserved specimens for display, programs, and study. Rocks, minerals, and fossils are among Arkansas-related geological specimens in the Museum collection. Taxidermy specimens are also used for display and programming. Technology artifacts include communication items, farm equipment, and woodworking tools. The Historical collections include Native American pottery and baskets, Little Rock Fire Department History, sculpture, multicultural masks, fans, Egyptian artifacts, Kewpie Dolls, and even broader ranging areas. Arkansas-related items are of primary importance to the Museum, but a more multicultural element also introduces visitors to people and culture throughout the world.
