Welcome to the century hotel, one of the most charmingand architecturally significant boutique hotels in miamibeach. Designed in 1939 by the legendary art decoarchitect henry hohauser, the century has been impeccablyrenovated for the 21st century.With its modern amenities, friendly staff, convenientocean drive location in the quaint yet chic south offifth street neighborhood, the century is an alluringdestination.In the 1920's the formal machine aesthetics of lecourbusier, mies van der rohe, the bauhaus, theconstructivists and de stijl irrevocably blew apartclassical architectural tradition. When these radicalstyles from the cosmopolitan north were transplanted tothe breezy shores of the south, they took on adistinctively tropical tone. Perhaps the foremost exponentof the deco genre on miami beach was henry hohauser, andit was he who, in 1939, drew the plans for the centuryhotel, a building generally considered to be among hismost successful and delightful designs.In april of 1990, century hotel received the miami beachdesign preservation league award for outstanding facadepreservation. The following year, there was a second, similar award, this time for interiors.Voted one of travel and leisure magazines 25 stylishhotels for under 200.00 usd for 2001, the 26 roomcentury still draws celebrities and models along with amore subdued and grown up clientele.
