Charles Street Inn

Location. The Charles Street Inn is located in the 19th century downtown neighborhood of Beacon Hill in Boston, Mass. The inn is positioned less than one quarter mile north of the Boston Common and Boston Public Garden. The bed and breakfast is set on Charles Street, which features antique shops, home decorating stores, food markets and a variety of restaurants.
Features. This 1860 Victorian town house showcases vintage furnishings clustered around original marble fireplaces. Complimentary continental breakfast items are provided in the guestrooms. The Charles Street Inn is furnished with elegant Second Empire antiques.

Guestrooms. The Charles Street Inn offers nine guestrooms named after renowned Bostonians who lived in the Beacon Hill area, including Louisa May Alcott and Henry James. Mantle clocks, period chandeliers and sculptured desk lamps are complemented by related etchings, lithographs and original oil paintings. Rooms include Turkish carpets and chenille throws. Original marble fireplaces and complimentary firewood are featured in all accommodations. Units include private bathrooms with air jet thermo tubs. Bathrooms are stocked with two bathrobes, Crabtree & Evelyn toiletries and five piece Frette towel sets. Bose Wave Music Systems are provided in all units. Two direct dial telephones and an LCD HD television with cable channels, VCRs and DVD players are included. Units are equipped with complimentary wireless and high speed wired Internet access.

Expert Tip. The inn was originally constructed to showcase Second Empire Victorian architecture as a model home for the development of the Back Bay neighborhood in 1860. It is said to be the first building constructed as a model home in the United States.
