The Department of Museum Collections cares for a large and eclectic body of material ranging from postage stamps to horse drawn vehicles, and from quilts to firearms.
Among the 100,000 objects are items of national as well as local significance. The purposes of the Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society are: To collect, preserve and research the written, spoken, pictorial and artifactual record of the history of Western New York and the Great Lakes in general, and of Buffalo and Erie County in particular.
