Over 600 species and 7000 specimens of animals live at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium.
The Columbus Zoo is committed to the preservation of wildlife through scientific studies, breeding programs, public education and support of conservation efforts in the wild. In addition to the animals that are found around the globe, our collection includes rare and endangered species that are rapidly disappearing from our planet.
The Zoo's goal is to present the world's animals in exhibits that best represent the animals' natural habitats. By presenting the animals in this manner, the public not only enjoys seeing the animals, but they also learn about the importance of each life form and the role it plays in the overall health of an ecosystem. Humans, too, are part of this web of life.
