The immigrants and pioneers who settled Wisconsin came from vastly different cultures. Yet they all shared a common purpose - the determined pursuit of the American Dream.
Old World Wisconsin tells their stories by re-creating a world in which farmers, tradesmen and shopkeepers lead their lives the same way these settlers did. Bring the whole family to see, hear and smell the same things the filled the senses of those hardy souls who chose to build new lives in a faraway place called Wisconsin. Nearly 600 acres of pristine prairie and lush woodland in the southern unit of Kettle Moraine State Forest provide Old World Wisconsin with an idyllic setting.
The largest outdoor museum of rural life in America, Old World Wisconsin portrays the history of immigration and resettlement in late-19th and early 20th-century Wisconsin. The Visitor Center's octagonal Clausing Barn includes a rustic cafeteria-style restaurant, and the Ramsey Barn contains an orientation theater and museum shop stocked with unique Wisconsin gift items. Once inside the museum, visitors can board a tram for an open-air ride to and from the museum's major thematic areas.
