Overview of the Arizona Coyotes
Founded in December 1971 as the Winnipeg Jets of the World Hockey Association (WHA), the team was one of four franchises absorbed into the NHL after the WHA ceased operations in 1979. Seventeen years later, the franchise moved to Phoenix and was renamed (to the Coyotes) after a public team-naming vote. In January 2014, the team altered its name once more, switching from "Phoenix" to "Arizona" to reflect the fact that they were no longer located within Phoenix city limits and simultaneously included all hockey fans in the state of Arizona!
Despite some setbacks, things are looking promising for the Arizona Coyotes this season! During the offseason, general manager Bill Armstrong made the team a key player by signing defenseman Matt Dumba to help anchor the back end, as well as forward Jason Zucker, forward Alex Kerfoot and center Logan Cooley (the team's top prospect) — who was projected to be a legitimate offensive contributor. The Coyotes are a young team on the rise who are sure to turn heads this season!
