Overview of the Buffalo Bills
The seventh team to be admitted to the American Football League, the Buffalo Bills were named after western frontiersman Buffalo Bill. Back in 1964 and 1965, they won consecutive AFL Championships — the only major sports championships from a team representing Buffalo. After joining the NFL, they became perennial postseason contenders during the late 1980s and early 1990s. From 1990 to 1993, their greatest success occurred when they appeared in four consecutive Super Bowls. It was during this period that they were one of the league's most dominant teams.
Drawing much of its fanbase from Western New York and Southern Ontario, the Bills are the only NFL team that plays their home games in the state of New York. They're known to have some of the most passionate fans in the league — having set an NFL single-season attendance record in the 1990s when 635,889 fans attended games during the 1991 season. As of the late 2010s, the Bills have returned to consistent postseason contention, although they have yet to return to a Super Bowl.
