Parks News: D23 Expo Begins; Halloween Horror Nights Tickets on Sale!

by Leap on August 9, 2013

It's time for the Frog Family's weekly roundup of Disney and Orlando theme park tidbits from the interwebs.

We love comments! Drop us a line below if you have something to share.

This week’s highlights:

  • D23 Expo 2013, the ultimate Disney fan event, kicks off today! For those attending, there will be plenty of special events, meet-and-greet opportunities and brand new merchandise. Our friends over at Attractions Magazine will be live blogging at the event, so be sure to check in today through Sunday for all of the Disney excitement!
  • 4D puzzleJust in time for the expo, the Disney Parks Blog takes a look at some of the aforementioned merchandise, including this 4-D Disneyland puzzle. Explained merchandiser Cody Hampton, "We’ve offered a similar Disneyland puzzle in the past, yet the new twist with this puzzle is the 50 sculpted buildings that can be added to it."
  • You might have caught our short post yesterday, but we're very excited to be able to offer tickets again to Universal's Halloween Horror Nights for scary-good savings!
  • A Celebration of Harry PotterWarner Bros. and Universal Orlando are coming together for “A Celebration of Harry Potter.” The Potter convention will bring together fans Jan. 24-26 for three days of special events, including attending interactive Q&As with some of the film's actors and filmmakers and learning the art of “duelling” at a wand masterclass.
  • Mommy Frog and I have been very impressed with the reviews that have come in so far from good readers like YOU as part of this month's Undercover Tourist of the Month contest. It's not too late to submit yours for a chance to win a $250 Undercover Tourist credit!
  • Baby Zebra Busch Gardens has welcomed the birth of a baby zebra, who was born in the park's Serengeti Plain.
  • One of the most interesting stories I read this week was from the Orlando Sentinel about the significance of the color of cast member name tags. I always find myself reading name tags to see where cast members are from, and now I know if a cast member has a blue tag with white letters, they have been honored by fellow cast members with the Walt Disney Legacy Award. This spring, 350 of the 66,000 Disney World employees were honored with the award  for going above and beyond every day. Pretty cool, huh?
  • LEGO Imagination Center buildWe're always on the hunt for FREE things to do at Disney World, so this one caught my eye. It's the monthly build at the LEGO Imagination Center at Downtown Disney, where kids ages 6-14 can construct their own figure, with a different one each month.

That’s all for this week. Until next week, happy planning!
