Frequently Asked Questions About Genie Plus at Disney World: A Basic Overview and How to Purchase

What is Disney Genie?

Genie Plus at Disney World is a new FREE planning tool available in the My Disney Experience app. You can use this new technology to guide you through the theme parks with tips to help you reduce time in lines, discover Disney magic and take the guesswork out of planning your day. You can learn more about all that's included in the Disney Genie service in our full post here.

What is Genie+?

Disney Genie+ is a paid skip-the-line benefit that allows guests to enter through a special line (think of the former FastPass+ lines) rather than the standby line. Not all Disney attractions are available with Genie+, which we'll get into below — but a majority of popular Disney attractions are included with Genie+. This add-on is toadally optional. All rides continue to operate with either a standby queue or a virtual queue at no additional charge.

Disney Genie+ single and multi-park price options

How much is Genie Plus at Disney World?

As of June 27, 2023, Disney Genie+ prices now vary by date and by park. Guests can choose either a multiple-park option (eligible with park hoppers) or choose a single-park option. Each of the four theme parks will offer a different price point. Since Genie+ can only be purchased on the day of, guests should double-check the My Disney Experience app for the current price.

Tadpoles under 3 years old (who do not require an admission ticket) do not need to purchase Genie+ to go with their party.

When can I purchase Genie Plus at Disney World?

You can purchase Disney Genie+ day by day on each day of your trip using the My Disney Experience app. Genie+ is available for purchase when the clock strikes midnight on the day of your visit, but you don't need to stay up late (instead, make sure to purchase about 15 minutes early to secure it before the 7 a.m. selection process). All guests can make their first Genie+ selection at 7 a.m. As of June 8, 2022, all guests will need to purchase Disney Genie+ service this way, daily, dependent on availability. During busy times, Genie+ can sell out by park (and the multi-park option becomes unavailable once a single park sells out).

Can I purchase Genie+ without a park reservation?

Yes! As of Jan. 9, 2024, date-based tickets no longer require a park reservation, so you'll be able to purchase Genie+ without a park reservation.

How does Disney Genie+ work?

You can make your selections across all of the theme parks if you have a Park Hopper ticket and purchase the Multiple-Park option with Genie+ (look near the bottom of the "My Day" tab where it says, "Plan for Your Next Park" to let Genie know your park hopping plans). These reservations can be made within the My Disney Experience app. One big change for people who have used FastPass is that you can only book a particular ride once per day.

Which Disney World attractions are included with Genie+?

What is not included with Genie Plus at Disney World?

A few in-demand rides (and rides that utilize a virtual queue) are excluded from Disney Genie+. Instead, these rides will be available for an additional price per ride, such as TRON Lightcycle Run, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. These a la carte options can be purchased same-day, in-park. You can use a pay-per-ride for a particular attraction once per day and pay to upgrade for up to two different rides per day (regardless of where you are staying).

What is Lightning Lane?

Disney Genie FAQ - Lightning Lane Entrance

Lightning Lane is the name of the queue you will enter at each attraction. The FastPass entrances have been renamed Lightning Lanes (ka-chow!).

Do you have to purchase Genie+ to buy individual Lightning Lane selections?

No, you do not need to have Genie+ to purchase individual Lightning Lane selections. (You can opt for one or the other, or purchase both skip-the-line options.)

Which attractions are included as individual Lightning Lane selections?

Disney Genie - Individual Lightning Lane Selections

Can Genie+ rides "sell out"?

Genie+ rides are not guaranteed. The most popular rides can run out of available Genie+ Lightning Lane selections. We usually see this later in the day for most attractions. However, the most popular ones can run out within minutes during busier periods. Don't give up hope on them, though! You might see more availability pop up later, possibly due to cancellations. Act quickly on those if you see them.

Likewise, Disney Genie+ service is subject to availability, which means single and multi-park options could potentially sell out for the day.

If I am park hopping, but only want to buy Genie+ for one park, can I?

Yes! You will have the option in My Disney Experience to purchase the multi-park or an individual park option.

What if I choose Genie+ service for a single park and later want to park hop with Genie+?

Stop by Guest Relations to see if upgrades are available for the day!

How much are individual Lightning Lane selections?

Pricing and availability may vary by date, attraction and park. These tend to range between $7 and $25 on any given day, however. You can see the price before you pay.

Can individual Lightning Lane selections sell out?

Yes. Once all the available add-on ride slots are filled, the individual Lightning Lane box will say, "Not currently offered."

Do offerings ever change?

Yes! Originally Expedition Everest, Space Mountain, Frozen Ever After, Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway and Remy's Ratatouille Adventure were individual Lightning Lane selections but are now included in Genie+.

As of March 20, 2023, attraction photo downloads are now included with Disney Genie+. If you purchase Genie+, you'll be able to download any ride photos from that day at no additional cost. This includes popular attractions such as Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Space Mountain, Test Track and more! Check out our guide to Disney World ride photos for more details.

Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lane Selection Process FAQs

How do you select a time window for a Genie+ attraction?

Genie Service Guide - Tip Board

For Genie+ attractions, navigate to your "Tip Board" where you can only book the next available time window, which could be as soon as five minutes later or hours away. You cannot make them in advance for times that are later in the day. Click on "Book Experience." The next page will confirm the arrival window (note: due to demand, this can change), show if you have any overlapping plans and you can adjust your party, if needed, before you officially book it.

Can you edit your Genie+ reservation?

Yes! Guests can now easily modify a Genie+ reservation instead of having to cancel and rebook. You may change the selected attraction to a different attraction within the same theme park or the time window (as well as the party members). Thanks to this game-changing update, you can have more flexibility with your Genie+ plans without having to sacrifice the two-hour waiting period to make your next one! We recommend refreshing so that if you see a better time pop up, you can adjust it and not have to risk losing that reservation.

How soon can you make another Genie+ attraction selection if you can only get one at a time?

You can make another Genie+ selection when one of the following happens (whichever comes first):

  • You tap in for your last booked Genie+ reservation.
  • The window for your last booked Genie+ reservation passes.
  • It's 120 minutes after the park opened (if you made your first res at 7 a.m.).
  • It's been 120 minutes after making a reservation during normal park hours.

Can you book more than one experience?

You can only make one Genie+ selection at a time, but you can hold overlapping Genie+ selections because there is a two-hour window before you're able to select another one. You can also purchase an individual Lightning Lane selection that overlaps with a Genie+ selection.

It is possible to join a virtual queue (when in use) AND purchase an Individual Lightning Lane selection for the same ride, thus granting you the ability to ride twice in a day.

But what if my Genie+ return time window is more than two hours away?

As we mentioned before, you can only select the next available time. So, if it's a particularly busy day, you might find that, when you're looking at noon, the next available time for a popular ride could be 7 p.m. Snag it anyway! Your ability to make Genie+ selections will be frozen for two hours, but starting at 2 p.m., you can make another Genie+ selection for another ride. If that ride is more than two hours away, then, at 4 p.m., you can make one more, and so on.

Speaking of individual Lightning Lane selections, is that process different?

Disney Genie and Genie+ FAQs - Individual Lightning Lane Selection Process Screenshot

Yes! For individual Lightning Lane selections, you can select any of the available time windows that pop up, which range throughout the day. For best availability, select at 7 a.m. if you're a Disney World Resort hotel guest or a guest of select hotels in Orlando, or right at the park open, if not. It will show any overlapping plans and allow you to edit your party, if needed. You'll still want to make these as quickly as possible, as the time could potentially change or a ride could sell out while you make one.

How does Genie+ work if you're park hopping?

If wanting to use Genie+ in multiple parks in one day, be sure to purchase the multiple-park option. Let Genie know that you're park hopping by going to the "My Day" tab and selecting which park(s) you'll be hopping to and during which hours, so Genie can make recommendations based on your park hopping plans.

As of Jan. 9, 2024, all-day park hopping is back!

If you cancel a Genie+ reservation, did you use your only chance for that attraction?

No! Because you can only use Genie+ access once per attraction, you do need to modify it if you wish to change your arrival time. If you miss your window and do not successfully cancel or modify it, you will not be able to make another reservation for that attraction. We missed our arrival window for Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin. The reservation did not disappear right away, but when we checked 15 minutes later, it was gone. We attempted to make another but could not because we were ineligible since we "used" it already.

Can you be early or late to your Genie+ or individual Lightning Lane reservation?

The arrival windows are meant to be firm, so you must get there on time. (We were able to scan into the first touchpoint at Haunted Mansion five minutes early though.) If you're late, the cast members may not be able to let you through. If it's an instance that's out of your control (such as a different ride breaking down that caused you to be late), we suggest kindly explaining the situation, but it's up to the discretion of the cast members at the attraction entrance.

What if the attraction that you have a Genie+ or individual Lightning Lane selection for breaks down?

Don't worry! There are certain recovery efforts that the cast members will be able to implement, in case this happens. For instance, if you paid for an individual Lightning Lane selection that you haven't used yet but it breaks down and never reopens, a refund or gift card may be offered. If the ride breaks down after you've already scanned in and are waiting in line, then you may not be able to get a refund, but they could issue a Multiple Experiences Pass or a different return time window instead. Cast members will take care of you! Look for the blue Customer Experience umbrellas.

Is Genie+ available during Early Theme Park Entry, Extended Evening Hours or After Hours events?

No, Genie+ and the individual Lightning Lane selections are only available during normal park hours.

Can I book for multiple people?

Yes! You can reserve Genie+ or individual Lightning Lane selections for up to 12 people — you'll need to be connected in the "My Family and Friends" area of the My Disney Experience app.

Miscellaneous Disney Genie and Genie+ FAQs

Is Genie+ different at Disneyland and Disney World?

Yes! While both services vary in price depending on the day, Genie+ at Disney World typically starts at $15 per day, while Disneyland Genie+ starts at $25 per day. Genie+ at Disneyland includes PhotoPass unlimited PhotoPass downloads while just attraction photos are included with Genie+ at Disney World (plus some fun photo lenses!) At Disneyland, you can purchase Disneyland tickets with Genie+ included in advance, while Genie+ at Disney World can only be purchased same-day within the My Disney Experience app.

What else is included in Genie Plus at Disney World?

Aside from Lightning Lane access, Genie+ includes augmented reality photo lenses and audio experiences at both resorts.

Do Disney Resort Hotel guests get any perks related to Genie+?

Remember those individual, a la carte Lightning Lane options we talked about? Disney World Resort hotel guests are able to make those reservations as early as 7 a.m. on the day of their visit (versus the general public who cannot reserve until park opening). That's a huge advantage for hotel guests, as popular rides such as TRON may run out of reservation windows. All guests, regardless of where they stay, are limited to a maximum of two pay-per-ride attractions per day and can only book a particular ride once per day.

What about Annual Passholders?

Annual Passholders will need to purchase Genie+ on the day(s) of their visit.

Can we purchase tickets pre-loaded with Genie Plus at Disney World?

Disney World tickets no longer come with the option to include Genie+, and instead, you will need to purchase Genie+ the morning of, each day of your trip (subject to availability). If you purchased tickets with the Genie+ add-on before June 8, 2022, they remain valid and you do not need to purchase again.

We will arrive at Disney World at around 6pm to check in on Sunday night, 3/24. Would we still be able to purchase an ILL at 7am for that day even though we have not checked in yet?

Hi Holly!

Yes, you can purchase individual Lightning Lane selections on the day of check-in at 7 a.m. You could complete online check-in for your hotel stay once it becomes available. Just make sure that your resort reservation and park tickets are linked to your account.

We are not getting to Magic Kingdom until at least 4 PM the day we arrive. Do we bother with Genie Plus or will it all be sold out by then? Lightning Lane is included with Genie Plus OR we can just do Lightnin Lane and no Genie Plus?

Reply
Feb 12, 2024 at 3:59 p.m. FrogBlog Says...

Hi Erica!

Generally, in order to maximize the usage of Genie+ service, we recommend purchasing when you have a full day in the park. However, whether or not rides are sold out will ultimately depend on when you visit. During busier times, rides tend to run out of Genie+ reservations earlier in the day. But today (a weekday in early February), a good majority of the rides at Magic Kingdom still have available return times at almost 5 p.m (at the time of writing). Before you purchase, you can see what the next available times are — and if there's enough availability for the rides you want to use it on, you may still find Genie+ to be helpful. The individual Lightning Lanes for TRON and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train are purchased separately from Genie+ so they are not included. Using today as an example again, these have already sold out, so you would need to make sure to purchase early in the day.

If I have a large party, 2 families traveling together, and we decide to divide and conquer (ex: girls go to see princesses, boys go to a ride)... after I book one of these attractions with genie+, would I have to wait 2 hours to book the other attraction for the other half of the party? Or would I be able to book both since I didn't book for the entire party? Additionally, same scenario... now the girls want to do the same ride the boys did while they were seeing princesses - will I be able to book for the other half of the party based on the single booking per day using genie+? is it per person gets a single genie+ booking per ride, or per account for that day?

Reply
Feb 1, 2024 at 7:50 a.m. FrogBlog Says...

Hi Stephanie!

Genie+ reservation bookings are determined by per person, so yes, you would be able to make a Genie+ reservation for the girls to meet princesses and the boys for a ride. Then the girls can be booked for that same ride since they have not used Genie+ for it yet.

We have two families going to Disney. My question is, can one family purchase there own genie plus and then can we link accounts so one person can book the rides/lightening lanes but not have to pay for everyone's genie plus.

Reply

Hi Jamie!

Yes! As long as you're linked together in My Family & Friends and allow access to each other's plans, you would be able to pay separately but book Genie+ reservations together. For Individual Lightning Lane selections, you'll need to book separate reservations if you want to pay separately, so you would need to make sure to book time windows that overlap.

Same question for ILL and Genie+ selection. Will my brother be able to make these selection for his daughter or will I need to do this bc she's registered in my room.

We are a party of 3 adults and 1 toddler. Do all 4 of us need Genie plus? Or just one person can reserve a spot in the LL and the other 3 can tag along?

If we aren't buying lightning for individuals, is there an advantage for staying in a Disney owned hotel?

Reply

Hi Eddy!

Each person who is 3 and older would need to purchase Genie+ and/or individual Lightning Lane selections. Disney Resort hotel guests can purchase the individual Lightning Lane selections at 7 a.m. for the most popular attractions (such as Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance), whereas all other guests would need to wait until park open to purchase (though with Genie+, anyone can make their first Genie+ reservation at 7 a.m. regardless of where they're staying). Additional benefits for Disney Resort hotel guests include being able to make dining reservations 60 days in advance for your entire stay and Early Theme Park Entry.

Hello! I’m heading to Walt Disney World next year, however, 2 of us are staying onsite and 2 of us off site. Are we still able to link and use Genie plus together after park opening or will it not work as some can book from 7am?

Reply
Aug 29, 2023 at 2:04 p.m. FrogBlog Says...

Hi Nicole!

You can still link to each other on My Family and Friends so you can make Genie+ reservations together. Unless you also plan to book individual Lightning Lane selections (on-site guests can book at 7 a.m. while off-site guests must wait until park open), all guests can make their first Genie+ reservation at 7 a.m. so you shouldn't have any issues coordinating Genie+ rides. For ILLs when booking, you can select a timeframe from what's available (rather than seeing the next available time window, which is how you'd book Genie+ rides), so we'd suggest planning on picking a certain time beforehand so that the off-site couple can try to snag a timeframe that overlaps it, once the park opens.

You should be able to reassign unused theme park tickets to people from your Family & Friends list. Hi Debbie!

If you're looking for more information about the Disability Access Service (DAS), hop over to our blog post here. Typically, you can register for DAS Advance, up to 30 days before your visit, but we have been told that the live video chat doesn't work for international guests. If it does not work for you, you'll want to visit Guest Relations once you enter the park, and register for DAS in person.

Genie+, on the other hand, is a different paid service for expedited access to select rides. You can use both DAS and Genie+ together, or just utilize one service. You can only purchase Genie+ through the My Disney Experience app on the day(s) of your visit.

Let us know if you have any other questions.

Reply
May 3, 2023 at 8:43 a.m. FrogBlog Says...

Hi Pauline!

If you wish to cut down on time waiting in lines, then yes, Genie+ or individual Lightning Lanes may still be good options for you. Disney assigns the Disability Access Service (DAS) pass on a case-by-case basis, but generally, only having a mobility restriction would not qualify for the DAS pass, as the accommodation is the scooter. But if you have other physical or cognitive conditions that would affect your ability to wait in line, DAS may be useful for you. Though even with the DAS pass, you're still waiting the same amount of time as the standby line wait time (you just get a later return time so you don't have to physically be in the line), and you can only hold one DAS selection at a time before getting another. Having Genie+ would still cut down on this wait time (using DAS or not), by allowing you to hop on another ride through the Lightning Lane while you wait for your DAS return time. Let us know if you have any more questions!

Hi Caitlin!

Everyone who intends to use the Lightning Lanes would need to purchase Genie+ (or individual Lightning Lanes for select rides). It's the same concept as FastPass (you'll receive a time window to return to the Lightning Lane/former FastPass line), but the system is set up differently. For instance, one of the major differences is that you can only make one Genie+ reservation at a time, but then you can make your next one essentially every two hours or after you used your most recently booked Genie+ reservation. For more info, you can hop over to our main Genie guide or review the FAQs.

During busier times, Rise of the Resistance can sell out of ILLs prior to park open. With your visit being at the end of March, you should prepare for that possibility. Would it be possible with your schedule to rope drop? If so, that's what we'd suggest as a backup plan, so you can hop in the standby line as early as possible.

Hi Jessica!

Genie+ would only be available if you have a regular theme park ticket & park reservation and would be there earlier in the day. But not to worry, attendance is limited and you can get a lot done during After Hours with little to no wait! Here's how we strategized for After Hours at Hollywood Studios.

Hi Aimee!

Yes! Parties can split up to use Genie+ on separate rides. We do suggest though that you try to get reservations around the same timeframes (which can be tricky since you can only pick the next available time. However, you can modify Genie+ reservations now, so you will have more flexibility to modify the reservation and select a different time or ride within the same park if plans change).

I’m going with a group of 11, all are over 18. Can each person be the ‘manager’ of their own ticket and yet I can have them in my friends/family section and still book Genie+ rides for us all? In order to be their own manager they’d need a Disney app user ID, correct? If I do book some ride for them do they see it in their own app as well?

Hi Nikki!

Correct! Everyone can have their own My Disney Experience account - you just need to make sure that you're all linked together via the Family & Friends List. Once everyone is linked, one person can manage all of the group's plans, including Genie+ reservations, which everyone should be able to see in the app on their accounts.

Thank you for this informative article. We're going to DisneyWorld (first time family visit) and buying Genie Plus. We were excited to hear about PhotoPass being included, since it is so expensive and crowded that time of year especially. You mentioned it would start sometime Spring 2023 but I haven't seen anything about start date. Is there any chance it would start sooner? Just not sure why Disney would announce the PhotoPass free feature without giving a date or so early if it won't be implemented for months..

Hi Stacey!

Thanks for hopping by! Unfrogtunately, we're not toadally sure when this benefit will start — when Disney made the announcement a few weeks ago, it was only stated as "beginning in the next few months." We also just want to make it clearer that it will only be the ride attraction photos included with Genie+. Any other PhotoPass photos, such as Magic Shots or photos with characters, would not be complimentary.

Thank you for the amazing information! We will be visiting January 20th with a crowd calendar of 5. Do you think Genie plus is not needed then since lines should be shorter or would it be recommended since you could definitely get the most bang for buck?

Reply
Jan 11, 2023 at 10:02 a.m. FrogBlog Says...

Hi Linda!

We think it could depend on which park you're visiting! For instance, if you'll be at Magic Kingdom and are only visiting for that one day, Genie+ may still be useful as there are many rides at the park that are offered on Genie+ so you could still get some bang for your buck. We also like using it at Hollywood Studios because there are a number of popular rides, but with fewer rides overall, Genie+ reservations can run out earlier in the day compared to other parks, so you need to be more strategic about how you use Genie+ there (we like to stack our reservations for the afternoons and evenings). But if you'll be at Animal Kingdom or EPCOT, then Genie+ is more likely not as necessary. You can always wait until you're inside the park to scope out the crowds, but the earlier in the day that you purchase it, the better so you can get the most use out of it.

Since there is now only 1 ILL designated in each WDW park, does that mean each guest is limited to purchasing 1 pay-per-ride, per day, since you can only use ILL once per ride?

Hi Teresa!

You're toadally correct that you can only use an individual Lightning Lane reservation once per ride. But if you're park hopping, you can make two — one at the park you started at and one at the park you're hopping to.

Good question! You cannot charge it to the room, but you can use a Disney gift card. At first, it will automatically pull the card you have on file in your account, but there is an option at the bottom that says "Use a Different Payment Method" and from there, you will be able to insert your Disney gift card number.

Great post! I'm wondering if it's possible to purchase Genie+ each day (whether at midnight or 7 a.m.) for linked tickets > meaning we go with friends and they purchase their tickets, we purchase ours and we link them and I make all of our ride and dining reservations. Since Genie+ now has to be added daily, does the original purchaser of the tickets need to add it or can I? Asking because they don't wake up that early!

I have a question regarding Genie + while park hopping to parks with different opening times. For example, I start at Magic Kingdom (hours 8a-6p) and will park hop to Epcot (hours 8:30a-9p). If I book an afternoon Genie + for Test Track at Epcot around say 7:30a, can I make my next Genie + selection for a ride at Magic Kingdom 2 hours after Magic Kingdom’s opening time (which would be 10a since it opened at 8a)? I’m not adherent to two hours after Epcot’s opening time just because I booked my first Genie + there right? My goal is to book my next one at Magic Kingdom after first booking a 2p or later Test Track. Thank you so much, your information is great and always appreciated!

Hi Kristen!

We have run into this exact scenario before! During our experience, we had a park reservation for Magic Kingdom but grabbed our first Genie+ reservation for Rock 'n' Roller Coaster at Hollywood Studios at 7 a.m. (On that day, Magic Kingdom opened at 9 a.m. and Hollywood Studios opened at 8:30 a.m.) To see when we could make our next reservation, we tried making a second reservation for Big Thunder Mountain at Magic Kingdom, but of course, it wouldn't work and told us we couldn't make our next one until 10:30 a.m. (two hours after Hollywood Studios opening time). At 8 a.m. (still before either park opened), we canceled the Rock 'n' Roller Coaster reservation and made one for Big Thunder Mountain at noon. When we tried making a second reservation to test it out again, it told us we couldn't make one until 11 a.m. (two hours after Magic Kingdom opening time).

Hi Shana!

On 10/18, starting at 12 a.m. you can purchase Genie+ for the day. You do not need to stay up until midnight, but we do suggest purchasing Genie+ before 7 a.m. Then, at 7 a.m., you may make your first Genie+ selection. If you're a Disney Resort hotel guest (or a guest of the Swan & Dolphin Hotels or Shades of Green), you may also make your individual Lightning Lane selections at 7 a.m. (these are a la carte access for select high-demand rides such as Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance). But if staying off-site, you would be able to purchase individual Lightning Lane selections starting at official park opening time.

Or will the app recognize that we are in the same group and block the other person to ensure the whole linked group waits the required 120 minutes before making another Genie+ reservation for whole group? Hi Heather!

You're toadally right when it comes to September being a slower period at the parks. If you haven't already purchased Genie+ as a ticket add-on prior to June 8, you would need to purchase Genie+ one day at a time (on each day you'd want to use it) regardless, so it makes sense to wait and feel out the crowds before purchasing. You could refrain from using it at all, or you could opt to use it on select days of your trip if you get there and decide that you want to.

Hi Vicki!

Genie+ does not include food or shows at Disneyland. You can check out our guide on Genie+ at Disneyland here (it includes which attractions are available on Genie+). But overall, once you make a Genie+ selection, you'll need to wait two hours until you can make your next one (say, you make your first one and it doesn't start until later in the afternoon) OR after you tap into your Genie+ ride. If you have more questions on Genie+, you can also visit our FAQs and Tips posts.

We typically stay at a timeshare that is not considered Disney property or partner hotel. Rise of the Resistance is THE priority. We are willing to pay for the ILL, but wondering if we should book a night at a (cheap) Disney resort to get the 7 am purchase option (also wouldn't mind early entry). Question is - do we have to stay there? Can I do my ILL at our non-Disney hotel at 7 am that morning? Or is the app smart enough to know we're not there? I can't believe I'm even having to consider this, but this is likely our last Disney trip for awhile, and Star Wars is a must.

Hi. I plan to use the app for Genie+ but I also have old fastpass+ cards from several years ago. The cards are still linked to each family member in my account. Will those cards still work to scan to get into attractions?

Reply

Hi Kristen!

In order to access Lightning Lanes, you'll need to scan either your MagicBand, MagicMobile digital pass or Key to the World RFID card. Since you mention that the cards are linked to each family member, we think you're referring to Key to the World cards, so in theory, they should work. However, as a backup plan in case the cards fail, we'd recommend setting up MagicMobile passes (if you don't have MagicBands), which is simple to do! Also, if the cards are older, then the cast members might just issue new Key to the World cards at the entrance's touchpoints.

Hi. We are travelling from UK next Saturday July16. We are a party of 6 adults & 4 children ages from 4-9. We have our Disney tickets for the duration & will probably use the Genie+ option towards the end of the second week. We are all linked together. My question is if say the youngest cannot or doesn't want to ride on a particular ride, I understand I can exclude her & her mother from this particular reservation. Can they then be booked onto another ride instead, while the rest are waiting for their ride time to come live, or will she not be able to select a different ride until the other 8 complete their ride?

Reply
Jul 8, 2022 at 3:29 p.m. FrogBlog Says...

Hi Jack!

They can make a separate reservation for a different ride together! Though they'll want to try to aim for a similar timeframe that overlaps the larger group's ride. That would be the most simple way to split groups if you're wanting to ride more Genie+ attractions later as one big group.

Otherwise, if they make one for much later in the day, they would need to wait to ride their Genie+ attraction (or after 120 minutes have passed - whichever comes first) until they can make their next selection. If that hoppens to fall much later after the larger group has gone on their ride, then the larger group would be able to make their next selection, but your tadpole and her mother would not be able to if they're still waiting to ride (or waiting until 120 minutes have passed since making their separate reservation).

If you book your first attraction at 7.00 AM do I have to be at a Disney hotel or near a park? Is this for all guests including resort guests? Hi Maaike!

Anyone can make their first Genie+ selection from anywhere at 7 a.m.! (For only the individual Lightning Lane selections, hotel guests can make them starting at 7 a.m. while all other guests can make them at park open.) We do expect that Disney will keep the Early Theme Park Entry benefit beyond Aug. 7. It's definitely possible! Rise of the Resistance has a standby queue that you can use if you do not get an individual Lightning Lane reservation. For Guardians, there is a virtual queue as well as individual Lightning Lane access. Because it's a brand-new ride in high demand, it may be harder to get, but you have two chances to join the virtual queue each day.
