Parks News: Disney Infinity Debuts; Imagineers Tease Star Wars & Avatar Projects

It's time for the Frog Family's weekly roundup of Disney and Orlando theme park tidbits from the interwebs.

We love comments! Drop us a line below if you have something to share.

This week’s highlights:

  • Disney Infinity Those of you who are gamers, or parents of gamers as is the case in the Frog household, probably already know the interactive video game platform Disney Infinity launches this Sunday. Those of you who are already lucky enough to be at the Walt Disney World Resort today can pick it up at Downtown Disney early. There certainly seems to be high expectations for the game, so we want to know if you're getting it, and if so, which characters will you be picking up?

  • D23 Expo has come and gone, and many had speculated that there would be big news out of the ultimate fan experience held this past weekend in Anaheim. While that didn't quite happen, Inside the Magic offered this excellent tour of the Walt Disney Imagineering pavilion, where imagineers gave plenty of hints and teases of what's to come, with references to Star Wars, Avatar and Disney Springs.

  • One of the highlights of D23 Expo was the naming of this year's Disney Legends. Among the honorees this year was imagineer Tony Baxter, who developed the Disney classic attractions Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Journey Into Imagination and Splash Mountain.
  • Beauty and the Beast merchandiseMommy Frog is particularly excited about the new "Beauty and the Beast"-themed merchandise coming to the parks, especially the wonderful Lumière (who truly does steal the show at Enchanted Tales With Belle) and the replica of the fountain outside Gaston's Tavern.

  • Royal BabyLast bit of merchandise news, but on the occasion of the royal birth, the United Kingdom in Epcot has debuted a few new pieces fit for your little prince and princesses.

  • A new behind-the-scenes animal expert TV series debuting Oct. 5 will feature a number of the more than 12,000 exotic animals at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay and will be filmed at the theme park.
  • You might have seen the earlier news this week about some new additions to Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party, including the debuts at Magic Kingdom of Jack Skellington and Sally, and a Monstrous Scream-O-Ween Ball, led by none other than Mike and Sulley.
  • Raglan Road Irish DancersAs if the Labor Day weekend wasn't cause enough for celebration, Raglan Road Irish Pub & Restaurant will once again be hosting a great Irish hooley, with an terrific lineup of authentic singers, dancers and eats. There will be face painting, and for the most daring, dance workshops for the whole family!

That’s all for this week. Until next week, happy planning!
