It's time for the Frog Family's weekly roundup of Disney and Orlando theme park tidbits from the interwebs.
We love comments! Drop us a line below if you have something to share.
This week’s highlights:
-
The Walt Disney World Resort's largest test to date of MyMagic+, FASTPASS+ and MagicBands kicked off yesterday and will run through June 26 for select guests staying at Disney’s Contemporary Resort and Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. As was previously reported, MyMagic+ is expected to be rolled out by the end of the year. In the meantime, we'd love to hear from any of you taking part in the test!

After months of anticipation, Universal Orlando rolled out the red carpet, literally, for the grand opening of Transformers: The Ride: 3D. Director Steven Spielberg, Peter Cullen (the voice of Optimus Prime) and Frank Welker (the voice of Megatron) were among the notables who turned out for the celebration, which included pyrotechnics as well as fighter jets.
- Everyone's favorite Simpsons villain, Sideshow Bob, has somehow escaped from prison and is now greeting guests along with Krusty the Clown in the new Springfield area at Universal Studios. Someone please alert Maggie!
- Three Central Florida children helped christen a vehicle for the new Quest for Chi water ride at LEGOLAND. The ride will open when the themed Legends of Chima "world" opens July 3.
- All of you Monsters fans might want to check out highlights from the Limited Time Magic at Disney’s Hollywood Studios® this week, where Mike and Sulley joined the monsters of rock, Scare Supply, on stage for a number of monstrous hits.
- Some of you may have seen Mommy Frog's very sweet post about her love of "Monsters Inc." yesterday. It seems there are an awful lot of you Rozs out there (and here I thought Mommy Frog was the only one). She asked me to remind you that it's not too late to tell us about the Monsters character you most resemble.
-
Much ado has been made over Main Street Bakery's makeover into a Starbucks at Magic Kingdom® Park. It re-opened this week, and it seems this is still very polarizing for Disney World fans. As we've stated, we're wholly supportive of the decision to bring in quality java, especially Roz -- I mean Mommy Frog :) For those of you who are looking for your cinnamon roll fix, they have moved to Gaston's Tavern.
-
SeaWorld Orlando's Aquatica took part in the 4th annual World's Largest Swimming Lesson, held simultaneously at more than 700 aquatic facilities on five continents. Olympic gold medalist Rowdy Gaines was there for the water safety event, which looks like it was a lot of fun!
-
More than 30 Atlantis astronauts are set to participate in the grand opening of the 90,000-square-foot Space Shuttle Atlantis exhibit June 29 at the Kennedy Space Center. The new area, which features the spacecraft itself, will tell the story of the Space Shuttle Program. As Tad likes to say, that's pretty awesome!
That’s all for this week. Until next week, happy planning!
