A note from Mommy Frog: During Disneyland's phased reopening, you may rely on Mobile Order more often than usual. In fact, it's the only option at some restaurants. Even though Disneyland has temporarily ended annual passes, the AP discount through Mobile Order is reinstated. Passholders should make sure their Legacy Pass is linked in the app before visiting. Hop over to our post on what's open when Disneyland reopens to see a complete list of open and closed restaurants. And hopping good news! Pym Test Kitchen and Pym Tasting Lab in the new Avengers Campus both offer Mobile Order, but windows are released on a rolling basis throughout the day so people cannot order too far ahead.
We all want Disneyland food in our frog bellies as soon as possible. However, waiting in lines is often unavoidable. Getting food at fast-casual and quick-service restaurants at Disneyland Resort post-pandemic means getting to know and use the Disneyland Mobile Ordering service. It eliminates the wait time for freshly prepared food and allows you to plan meals ahead. Of course, you may want to plan those meals even further ahead than normal as popular locations do fill up. If you wait until you are hungry, you may not find a time slot that suits your desires.
You can use the Disneyland mobile app to order food and dessert from select Disneyland restaurants and food stands (including some locations in Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge and Avengers Campus!) as quickly as right away, or for later on in the day if you want to plan ahead for a later meal. Actually, that's a very smart plan during the reopening period. Order food a few hours ahead of time. That way as soon as you are feeling rumbly in the tummy, you don't find out that next available arrival window is a couple of hours away. With limited food locations and popular favorites, the arrival windows can seem far away if you do not plan ahead.
There's an upside of Mobile Order in this new era of COVID-19, social distancing and reducing contact. Mobile Ordering allows park guests to avoid order lines and reduces contact points and currency exchange with cast members. You just need to touch your phone and then collect the food when you receive notice that it's ready. Systems for pick-up are in flux, so we celebrate the restaurants moving back to normal.
There are changes to Mobile Order. A few new restaurants have joined the Mobile Order list. Also, you can enjoy expanded Mobile Ordering payment options, such as Apple Pay and Disney gift cards. That is hopping good news if you do not want to pay with credit cards!
We recently mobile ordered our favorite fried chicken at Plaza Inn. Yes, you can customize if you prefer double potatoes or double green beans (or white or dark meat) They handed us a bag with the chicken packed in to-go containers. We took it outside and ate at the restaurant's tables. Indoor seating was extremely limited. But that may be changing and you can get your food on a plate again.
With Disneyland Mobile Order service, you skip the line to place your order for meals at select restaurants inside Disneyland Park, Disney California Adventure Park, the Downtown Disney district, the Disneyland Hotel and Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa. You can conveniently place your order from anywhere inside or outside of the parks, even if you have not entered the park for the day. Plan lunch or dinner while waiting in line for a ride or from your hotel room before you head to the park! You could even order food through the app while standing in the restaurant and bypass the other guests still waiting to order. Yes, we have done it multiple times, and we are happy to have food in our hands before other frogs in line have even placed their order.
We’ve all been hungry at Disneyland. But not willing to wait in a long food line, we often choose something quicker and maybe not as healthy from a cart (say a Mickey pretzel, churro or popcorn) because we are busy hopping to the next ride or show. Sometimes one member of your group may be hungry for a meal but the rest of the group wants to eat somewhere else or press on rather than wait in line. Now you can order food and grab it in mere seconds instead of a 15- to 20-minute wait, meaning you can get what you want, when you want it. The restaurant prepares it once you have indicated that you are there and ready for it, so it’s not drying out under a heat lamp. It’s fresh and made up right when you arrive!
How to Use Disneyland Mobile Order Service
In order to take advantage of Mobile Order, you need to download the Disneyland mobile app and set up an account. We recommend doing this before your trip, so you can be ready to order in the park and to purchase Disney MaxPass if you are planning to use the app to make FASTPASS reservations or use MaxPass to get PhotoPass downloads (note that during Disneyland's initial reopening period, both FASTPASS and MaxPass are temporarily unavailable.).
If you already have the Disneyland app, be sure to update to the latest version to activate the Disneyland Mobile Order function and perhaps Touch ID or Face ID for the app, which can save you the hassle of constantly typing in passwords to make a purchase. If you have not used the Disneyland app yet, be sure to link your park ticket and Legacy Pass (or a new pass once passes are available again) to the app. If you want to pay with a gift card, you'll add it before each purchase.
To order food through Disneyland Mobile Order service:
- Open the app and click the + symbol on the bottom of the main menu.
- Click Order Food.
- Select a restaurant and 30-minute arrival window.
- Sign in to your account.
- Make your food selections. If the Add button won’t click, you may have choices to select first such as apple slices or fries and perhaps a dipping sauce.
- Click View My Order. Select Modify Order or Review Order Summary.
- Under Payment Methods, you may select Add a card if that is your preferred payment, or simply use the credit card on file.
- To add a gift card, type in the 16-digit card number and hit Save.
- Scroll to the bottom and select Purchase.
- When you arrive at the Mobile Order pick-up area, tap I’m Here, Prepare My Order. Once you tap that, your order is final and nonrefundable.
- You can view your current orders by tapping the three horizontal lines at the bottom of the screen and then Mobile Food Orders.
- We always screenshot our Mobile Order number because it makes it easier if the app decides to stop working the second a cast member asks for our number. It happens.
If you do not tap “I’m here … ” before park closing and do not pick up your food, your order will be canceled when the park closes. You can modify arrival time for submitted orders or cancel them before you arrive to pick them up. Your phone will keep you updated on the status of your order via the app and will notify you when it is ready (the employees will call it out, as well). At really busy times, waits can be longer. We usually tap "I'm here ..." while walking over since it may take some time to prepare the food.
The app was recently updated to make Mobile Order even more user-friendly. The selections include larger photos of the foods, and the buttons at the top allow you to jump straight to categories like Seasonal Offerings, Entrees, Salads, Sides, Kids’ Meals, Toddler Meals, Allergy-Friendly, Plant-Based, Desserts, Sweets, Beverages and Alcoholic Beverages. The selections are custom to each restaurant and will vary. Of course, you can also scroll down to get to each of the items in these categories.
Disneyland Restaurants That Offer Mobile Order
Disneyland’s Mobile Order service has recently expanded. You can order food at restaurants in both parks and some locations in the hotels. The restaurant selection may change as they continue adding more restaurants to the service and even taking some away. Basically, your days of standing in line for a pineapple Dole Whip are over. Hooray!
During Disneyland events or festivals, Mobile Order is the way to go at the festival booths and many restaurants. You can use QR codes to order or open up the Disneyland app to order.

Navigating Mobile Order with Food Allergies
If you have food allergies, you can find choices that work for some of the more common allergies such as soy, gluten/wheat, eggs, fish/shellfish, milk or peanut/tree nuts on the Mobile Order menu. When looking over the menu for a restaurant, there is a new Allergy-Friendly button to take you right to a list of allergies. Click the button and select your allergy to get to a list of safe food choices. If you have multiple allergies or other special dietary concerns, it’s best to order in person or talk to the chef. Some items can easily be modified to remove allergens, but those will not show up in the allergy menus, so definitely order in person in those cases.
Some restaurants have plant-based options made from vegetables, fruits, grains, nuts, seeds and legumes. Look for a leaf icon at the top of your screen, which is a shortcut to take you to items that do not contain animal meat, dairy, eggs or honey. Expect to see more of these menu choices appearing soon!
The Limitations of Disneyland Mobile Order Service
Mobile Order is not for everyone. You won’t find many Disneyland secret menu items on the app because they are … well … secret. You’ll have to ask for those in person. On the other hand, we have found several items available on Mobile Order that are not on the printed menus! But not everything is on the Mobile Order menu. For example, you have to order alcoholic beverages at Tangaroa Terrace in person.
You might miss out on some menu items with Mobile Order. For example, we like to get a cup with half "It's lemon!" and half "It's vanilla!" from Adorable Snowman Frosted Treats, but that's not on the menu, so we have to order that in person. We have not seen all of the treats or morning items available for breakfast at the Jolly Holiday Bakery Café menu, so we have had to hop in to order our food if we wanted them. You might miss out on some special seasonal or festival offerings because they may not always appear as menu choices. Although, we have ordered many festival treats through the Mobile Order service.
You can add basic items such as sides and popular toppings (perhaps bacon on your burger or sprinkles on ice cream). And you can make choices for sides when offered. But you may not see all of the options listed in the app.
You may be able to customize your selection by saying "no thanks" to some of the ingredients, but maybe not all. If you're a very particular frog who wants a lot of substitutions and likes to fine-tune your meals, then it's probably best to wait in line. For example, if you want to substitute a veggie patty for meat, you'll need to order in person.
If you are a more spontaneous family and eat when something strikes your fancy, then you might refrain from ordering too far in advance. You can, however, cancel orders if you hop across something that sounds more appetizing, so don’t be afraid to use this service. You will love this service if you have a strong sense of where, what and when you want to eat.
Using your phone for ordering and collecting food will put more strain on your phone battery over the course of the day. We always use phone cases that include extra battery life and external chargers. We recommend you do too! If you don’t have any mobile chargers, you can purchase an external charger in the park.
If you prefer to use cash, Disneyland Mobile Order service may not be for you since payment goes straight to credit card. Look for expanded payment options such as Disney gift cards and Apple Pay. It can also be harder to stay on budget when you have such easy access to your favorite Disneyland food and treats with the click of a button! When you aren’t opening your wallet, it can be harder to keep track of how much you spend, so be sure to stick to your budget. If you prefer to purchase with cash, purchase a Disney gift card before you arrive and load that into the app. Be aware that Disneyland Resort is discouraging cash transactions during its reopening phase.
On the other hand, not having to pull out money all the time can make your journey more enjoyable. I recently forgot to bring my credit card into the park. When dinnertime came, we just used the app to order food and did not have to go hungry.
Other family members or friends who have your username or password can also place food orders through the app. That can be a good thing if members of the group split off and get hungry but don’t have money. But beware: You don’t have much control over how much they spend and you may get stuck footing the bill. That’s why we recommend that all families who use MaxPass together for rides also create their own username and password in the Disneyland app and add their own credit cards. Do this even if one person is managing a large group for FASTPASS reservations through MaxPass. Here’s a look on the bright side, and more benefits of this feature!
The Benefits of Disneyland Mobile Order Service
The obvious benefit to using this service is the time savings. While we frogs are not always interested in downloading more apps, we make an exception for the Disneyland app. It saves so much time in waiting in food lines (not to mention saving us many ride lines with MaxPass). That means we can spend more time playing as a family, seeing shows or enjoying rides instead of standing in food (or ride) lines. It is also hopful to use the app to see what restaurants offer the service in your area, should hunger suddenly strike while you are waiting for a ride. You can order while you wait and pick up your food after you ride. We love the efficiency and instant gratification that comes with ordering before we arrive.
Mobile Order also makes it a lot easier for family members with different tastes to eat where they want. Some group members may prefer one restaurant, while others may want something else. Disneyland Mobile Order service allows you to place separate orders for items from different restaurants. Then you can pick them up quickly without waiting in two or three separate, long lines. You can collect food from one restaurant on the way to another. No whining from the tadpoles or compromising from me and Leap. Win-win!
Applicable discounts, such as linked annual pass discounts (when available), are automatically taken off the bill when you use this service. Keep in mind that people who had a valid pass when the parks closed can still use their AP discount until a new memberships plan is available. During this time, you will not get the discount through the app, though, so you should order in person. When using Mobile Order, the meal is billed straight to your credit card. You simply arrive at the marked Mobile Order pick-up area, tap a button and collect your food. It’s that easy! You can send your family members to pick up their food without any money, although they should bring a phone because cast members may ask for your order number.
If you are looking for healthier food choices in the parks, using Mobile Order can help you plan ahead. Ordering in advance prevents impulse food purchases. Also, when you can pick up a salad, sandwich, Mickey Check Meal or Power Pack for the tadpoles a lot faster than a churro, you have the ability to choose foods that will give everyone the energy to make it through a long day in the parks. Here are some guidelines for healthy eating at Disneyland in case you need some inspiration! Healthy food choices definitely seem to cut down on meltdowns. Don’t worry if you are looking for quick treats: You can get ice cream, Dole whips, chips and desserts pretty quickly through the Disneyland Mobile Order service too!
Free Mobile Order Buttons
If you were an annual passholder, one of the benefits of Mobile Order was getting a free button! Free stuff is our jam! We do not know the future of the Mobile Order buttons during the pandemic. Buttons were not always available at all locations, and the locations offering buttons did change periodically before the pandemic. It doesn't hurt to ask for a button when you pick up your food. You will be asked to show your pass to collect the button, but it's a cool freebie!
So that’s the scoop on the Disneyland Mobile Order service. We jump for joy at anything that helps us skip the lines, and this service really delivers.
