As you get ready to plan your Disneyland trip, it's helpful to know which rides and experiences may be closed or undergoing refurbishment during your visit. Here is the full Disneyland refurbishment schedule and permanent ride closings. Permanent closures are attractions that are no longer active in the parks, refurbishments are temporary closures and seasonal closures take place annually. All of these refurbishments and closings are subject to change without notice. Don't fret! There is still plenty to do and see at both Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park.

Hi there! We are trying to plan a special trip with my daughter and her bestie to Disneyland, before they head off to different schools for high school. Does anyone happen to know how far in advance scheduled closures are listed? We have some flexibility and are trying to decide between late January or February, so I'd like to plan when there are the least expected closures. Our friend has never been, so we want to make sure she gets to go on as many of the "famous" rides as possible. Someone told me that January tends to be "refurbishment month," and that It's a Small World, Pirates, Haunted House, and Soarin are all often closed that month, so now I'm nervous! Any input would be so appreciated! :)

When I was there recently aside from the listed closures many rides close temporarily for the day. Kind of makes going a waste or time and money. Lots of money to pay just to shop and be pushed around. The haunted mansion was closed when it was time to use our Fastpass. Mermaid ride was closed on and off all day, Same with Snow White. Frozen times for Tuesday on the printed schedule they giv you are wrong, plus there was not a FastPass for that even though it was stated there was.Walked all the way to get the FastPass only to be told to show up 45 minutes before the show and hope to get it......Total waste of money at Disneyland and CA until the attractions open up.

I am taking my 2 children - ages 6 & 9 - to Disneyland for their first time. I grew up in Southern California so went frequently, but I can see that Disneyland is a whole different ballgame than when I used to go. My parents are coming with us (we will be 3 adults & 2 children) and have offered to pay for one night at a Disney hotel so that we can get early entrance to a park. I am trying to decide the best arrangement so that we can spend time at Disneyland, Ca Adventure, and I know the boys will want to play at the hotel (especially water slide if the weather is warm enough). We will be going the first week of November, likely arriving Monday 11/7 at the park, driving from north county San Diego (approx 1.5 hours depending on traffic). With this plan, we'd go straight to Ca Adventure park and spend the day there so that on Tues we could take advantage of magic hour for Disneyland. My question is are there cool things to do in Ca Adventure at night, as we won't be able to stay until close at Disneyland on Tuesday. Should we spring for park hopper tickets and spend Monday evening at Disneyland? Do you have any other ideas for how to maximize fun and minimize lines & exhaustion? My brother-in-law said we should spend 2 nights at the hotel and 2 days in the parks (as opposed to 1 night/2 days), but I am not sure that is in the budget. Thanks!

Hi Rebecca,

Be sure to catch World of Color in DCA. We love the way Cars Land lights up at night and there is plenty to see and do. We use single rider lines and FastPasses. If you are too late to get tickets to Frozen Live, hop in the stand-by line about an hour before the show. The parks close early both those nights (at 8 and 9 p.m. both nights), so that means no nighttime entertainment/fireworks at Disneyland.

Hi there! When I booked my trip for the first week of October, Splash Mountain wasn't included in the closures. Now it is. On the app, it shows closed as of Sunday, Oct 2nd. The website shows closed as of Monday, Oct 3rd. Any idea on this? October 2nd is our first day in the park so I'm hoping we'll get a chance to ride it that day before it closes!!

Hi Ashley,

Haunted Mansion and it's a small world are usually closed during the middle or end of January to remove the holiday overlay. We don't have exact dates on this yet, but we'll post as soon as we do; those are usually the main rides closed during that time. Definitely keep checking back, though! As far as it being a busy time, the end of January is a good time to go. There shouldn't be too many crowds since the holidays and school breaks are over.

How far in advance are refurbs posted? We are planning trip end of Oct. 2015. I'm hoping with all going on early for diamond celebration that there will be very little refurb during our visit?

Most refurbs seem to happen in September transferring out of the peak summer season and into the holday season. October will be nice with the Halloween overlay and Nightmare Before Christmas themes being added to the Haunted Mansion. Pirates has been closed recently for a touch up but should be open before Oct 1st.

One thing I didn't realize before we went Jan 29-Jan 31st of 2015 was that the castle would be covered and you wouldn't be able to see it. That was the biggest bummer even though I knew it was going to be "closed" before we decided to go. Getting details as to why it was hidden from sight just made me want to come back later this year. They are getting ready to celebrate the 60th anniversary and they are glittering up the castle. Lots of exciting things are coming for the celebration. Sad now that we won't get to see all that exciting stuff.

Thanks so much for this! As a new (out of state) annual passholder, and having been a handful of times the past few years, I'm curious of one thing: how good are they at keeping to the schedule? If I plan a trip for late April or early May, do you think I can count on Critter Country being re-opened? A few years ago, I was expecting Thunder Mountain to be reopened when I went in December but it was delayed much beyond that. Thanks for any advice!

Hi Kristyn,

It is possible for refurbishments to be delayed, although most stay within schedule. Usually any delay isn't too far past the original date.

Hi Paul,

Sometimes refurbs get moved all together, or refurb plans are scrapped, but usually if it is scheduled for rehab, it opens back when expected.

Good to know as I just made new plans to go elsewhere. They are over priced when fully operating so I would never pay full prices for half a show. Never.

The park"s board of directors should consider CLOSING COMPLETELY (for 3 weeks) Re-open Octoberfest..Halloween or Thanksgiving week.

Or discount the entry fee...allow everyone attending to participate in the experience of what happens in "refurbish" as a new attraction. Meals and Hardhats included

Hi Tina,

While we don't know what will be closed, it is likely you will experience some attractions closed for refurbishment during the period of time you plan on visiting.

Hi Brian,

Disney has not released an opening for Pirates yet. It's a bummer that Pirates will be under renovations, but you still have lots of great attractions and shows to see at that time!

As of march 16, 2017 pirates is no longer listed on the Disneyland website as being closed for refurbishment. I am assuming that means that after that date the ride will be open. I am going end of April.
