Inside This Post Inside This Post

As you get ready to plan your Disneyland trip, it's helpful to know which rides and experiences may be closed or undergoing refurbishment during your visit. Here is the full Disneyland refurbishment schedule and permanent ride closings. Permanent closures are attractions that are no longer active in the parks, refurbishments are temporary closures and seasonal closures take place annually. All of these refurbishments and closings are subject to change without notice. Don't fret! There is still plenty to do and see at both Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park.

When it says the Haunted Mansion is closed on the 30th, does that mean the last time you can go on the ride is at the end of the day on the 29th or the end of the day on the 30th? We are cutting it that close where our first planned day at Disney is on the 30th (but we are in LA as of the 28th). I would seriously considering changing our planned day at Disney to be able to experience this ride. Thanks!

Hi Heather!

In January, we generally see shorter park hours after the holiday festivities end (which will be Jan. 8 this year). We do see that Jan. 9 and 11 have a closing time at 10 p.m. though, so it's possible that it could be a private event or it's simply a low-capacity day so the parks are set to close earlier.

Historically, on average, have refurbished rides stayed closed up until the date listed on Disney’s site (meaning odds are the dates listed are pretty accurate) or do they typically open earlier? Basically, does Disney often post a close to “worse case scenario” so as to not disappoint guests but often flexes?

Disney California Adventure is slightly smaller, so things tend to book up quickly - but in March, there is also Food & Wine Festival that's a big draw! Hi Sherry!

The holiday overlays for Haunted Mansion and "it's a small world" usually come down a few weeks after Holiday Time ends (which is Jan. 9 this year). In the past, Haunted Mansion has been first and then "it's a small world," one at a time. Exact dates have not been confirmed yet. Other rides could come down for smaller refurbs but nothing has been announced yet. Grizzly River Run sometimes gets refurbished during the winter. As for the weather, it varies in January. You can typically expect an average high of high-60s to low-70s and an average low in the 50s, but it can get as low as the 40s and as high as the 80s. Rain is possible, but it depends, as it can rain at night but stay clear in the day. We recommend dressing in layers and if the weather calls for rain, bring a poncho or umbrella.

Hi Cherra!

Disneyland has not officially announced dates yet for holiday overlay closures, but we can see that "it's a small world" starts showing no operating times, beginning Oct. 25. That's as far as the calendar goes, so we think it's safe to say that "it's a small world" will be closed from Oct. 25 through Nov. 11, reopening for the first Disney Merriest Nites party that night and Holiday Time the next day. As for choosing between your two options, October 25-28 will still have Halloween Time, which is a lot of fun but will be busier than Nov. 1-4 (which is generally a quieter time with Halloween decor going down and Christmas decor starting to pop up). Hope this helps!

Hi. We just booked tickets for Nov. 3 - 5, but there is no schedule listed. How do I find out the hours? Also, the whole reason we are going is because my son LOVES small world, how do I find out if its closed during those days as it preps for the holidays? Thanks!

Hi Dari!

Disneyland releases park hours in batches (about six weeks at a time) so we'd check back in a couple weeks or so! As for the "it's a small world" holiday overlay, Disneyland hasn't announced the dates for the closure just yet, but usually, the dates will show up on its ride page. We'll also update this Refurbishments post once we find out, so stay tuned!

Hi Jackie!

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is currently under refurbishment, and it does not have a scheduled date for reopening yet (we'll update this post when we find out, but it should be sometime in fall 2021). At this time, there are no refurbishments scheduled for the Matterhorn Bobsleds, Jungle Cruise or Space Mountain. We anticipate that they would be open (especially the Matterhorn Bobsleds since it was recently refurbished), but Jungle Cruise and Space Mountain could close for holiday overlay installation/removal, so ride schedules are subject to change. We'd check back as it gets closer to your trip to confirm!

Hello! Any word on when Splash Mountain will close for the season or to be rethemed? We will be there mid November and I'm hoping it will be open and still the critter themed. Thanks!

Hi Derek!

We've just updated our post to reflect Big Thunder Mountain's refurbishment in September. At this time, there is no reopening date, other than it's expected to reopen in fall 2021. We'd recommend checking again as it gets closer to your trip!

Do we know which rides are closing for holiday overlay and when?

Hi there!

Haunted Mansion is closing early this year since Disney moved the start of Halloween Time to the beginning of September. It will be closed for overlay refurbishment, starting Aug. 16 to Sept. 2. The other overlays that have been announced (Cars Land rides & Guardians of the Galaxy) do not close for an extended time because their overlays are lighting, sound or digital.

Any word on what's happening with Lamplight Lounge in late August? Normal schedules/reservations available through Friday 8/20, but then from that date on it says "There are no schedules available for the date selected" as if it's going offline.

Hi Peter!

We'd suggest checking back because it may simply be that the restaurant schedule won't be available until park hours are established.

Hello! My husband and I finally get to go to Disneyland September for our late honeymoon as we were married the beginning of the pandemic. Im worried about the Matterhorn. Are repairs going well on the Matterhorn? Will it be ok? I know it’s in a rough state..

Hello! Headed to the parks first week of May, and I was wondering if you know average reopening dates for rides if they say spring 2020? Is it typically April, May...etc? Hoping we'll get to do Haunted Mansion! And if Indiana Jones hasn't been announced yet, do I dare hope they'll hold off until Fall at this point? Or is a spring refurb more likely? Thanks!

Hi Dayo!

Unfortunately, we don't have any news on reopening dates just yet! Haunted Mansion and Snow White are expected to open again in the spring (end of March to mid-June), while all we know for Indy is sometime in 2020. Keep hopping back - we'll be sure to update as soon as we know more!
