Inside This Post Inside This Post

As you get ready to plan your Disneyland trip, it's helpful to know which rides and experiences may be closed or undergoing refurbishment during your visit. Here is the full Disneyland refurbishment schedule and permanent ride closings. Permanent closures are attractions that are no longer active in the parks, refurbishments are temporary closures and seasonal closures take place annually. All of these refurbishments and closings are subject to change without notice. Don't fret! There is still plenty to do and see at both Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park.

We were there a couple of years ago and they closed Adventureland for a corporate event, and at closing time we were all escorted out of the park and prohibited from shopping on main street. We had counted on shopping and were not allowed. Is there a way to find out if the park what an event scheduled where they will do something similar? We are planning on visiting at the end of Feb 2020. Thanks!

Hi Josh!

We can imagine what a bummer that was! The good news is that that is a rare occasion. They usually post park hours on the Disneyland site 6 weeks in advance. When Disneyland closed early for an event in June 2019, the park made an announcement that guests would receive bonus time in the park in certain lands past the posted closing time, so how it’s handled must vary depending on the event. Check the park hours and if you see an unusually early closing time of, say, 6 p.m. during your visit, be sure to ask cast members about when the shops will close. Looking at the February schedule, we do not see any early closures on the calendar and do not anticipate any problems for you!

Hi, my husband and I are in our 60's and looking forward to coming on Feb 24th 2020. I saw the older postings about the Haunted Mansion, Indiana Jones, and other rides closing for refurbishing just ahead of our coming. Do you know the re-opening dates yet?

Haven't been there in 22 years and could be our last time so want to be sure as many of the rides we want will be open.

Thanks.

The overlay usually takes about 2 and a half weeks to put up. In 2019, the ride was closed from Aug. 26 - Sept. 6 to install the overlay. We don't know Halloween Time's dates for 2020 just yet, but in 2019, Halloween Time began on Sept. 6. If 2020 follows 2019's trends, you'd be good to go! Good news, Diz heads! The week of 2/16, the following rides are shown to be open at least through 2/19: Grizzly River Run (reopens 2/14, which is so cool because I've NEVER been on it!), Splash Mtn, Indiana Jones. Sadly, there are no fireworks or nighttime spectaculars for my visit, Tues-Thurs, but I'm so glad we get two of our top attractions plus a new one.

Hi Laura!

It may be too far out to see the schedule. Normally the calendar is out 6 weeks in advance. But not every show time will be out that early.

Disneyland has been waiting longer than usual to announce their full show schedule and even some dining reservations this fall. A safe bet will be to expect two shows Friday, Sat. and Sun. each week plus holidays. Some weekdays may not have a show or will have one show, depending on park closing times and expected crowd levels.

Expect “it’s a small world” to be closed as it gets ready for the holidays; we'll make any additional refurbishment changes that pop up on this post, as well. There is no chair seating for Fantasmic. It is all standing except for restaurant packages, which are seated on the ground. Our one suggestion is to book a dining package at River Belle Terrace, and call to upgrade it so you can watch the show from your table as you dine.

Hi Karen!

You are not alone. While Disneyland usually allows reservations up to 60 days in advance, many people are noticing that there are no reservations options for some experiences/times during that period. They just have not been released yet. Perhaps they are finalizing park hours. The entertainment calendar does not have all fall information posted yet either, so some information is delayed in coming our this year. Keep checking back because they may open soon!

Hi Valeri!

It looks like Blue Bayou is open for reservations that week, according to the Disneyland website - so we think you're safe in terms of a refurbishment hoppening then!

Do you know how long Winnie the Pooh will be closed? I noticed on the app it is closed starting September 16th and the schedule isn't out yet beyond the 28th.

Where did you get the information that Hyperspace Mountain will be closed August 12th and 14th? It doesn’t say it will be closed on the app. We’re just concerned because we are going the 12th and 13th and that’s our favorite. Thank you!

Hi! Thanks for all the info!

Any idea if World of Color in DCA will be under refurbishment for Halloween? I know they'll be doing a show for the Halloween party and I'm hoping to go early September. I hope its not down, that's an amazing show!

Do a lot of rides close for a couple days to take holiday decorations down or is it basically all done overnight.

Hi Shelly!

These tend to take a little bit of time, the exception being Space Mountain. The Haunted Mansion's holiday overlay removal happened from Jan. 7-17 in 2019. “It’s a Small World” was closed until about Feb. 1.

Hi Michael!

Hyperspace Mountain is currently running, and according to the OC Register, will continue through October 31. There will be no Ghost Galaxy during Halloween time this year. We see that the calendar has it starting refurbishment on August 28, and the calendar goes out only 6 weeks, so keep checking the calendar over the next few weeks for updates as to when the refurbishment ends.

Hi, looking at the calendar during our upcoming teil; August 12th -16th, Hyperspace Mountain is listed as “closed for refurbishment on Monday, the 12th and Wednesday, the 14th. Oddly, not listed as closed on Tuesday, the 13th, or the 15th or 16th. Any ideas?

Also, any idea why DCA closes at 5:00 pm on Thursday, the 15th? Every other day is 9:00 pm.

Thanks!

Hi Kari!

There's a special event going on on Thursday the 15th - no word on what exactly it is, only that it's happening :) We aren't sure what's going on with the refurbishment schedule for Hyperspace Mountain! At least there's some opportunity for you to ride during your trip!

It is possible it will be closed. In 2018, it closed on Oct. 22 and reopened on Nov. 9. This year is could possibly be closed by Oct. 21. We'll keep you posted as we know more!

Hi Justin!

Mid-August should be fine. It usually closes at the end of August. Last year it closed August 20th, so it’s possible that it could close beginning Aug 19, but that’s just a guess. We'll keep you posted as we hear more!

Hi there! Love this website, it's super helpful! My family and I will be at Disneyland on May 20th, I know the Sleeping Beauty Castle won't be finished until May27/28, but do you think at least that huge wall completely covering it might be down by then? I sure hope so, it sort of takes away the magic!

Hi Rebekah!

Thanks for stopping by - we're hoppy you're here! It’s too hard to call on if the wall will be down, but there is still plenty of magic in the park. The Fantasyland side of the castle covering has some extra special scenery printed on it, so if it’s still up, be sure to check it out! (We know, it's no replacement for the actual castle!)

Keep hopping!
