Disneyland Refurbishments & Closings

by Leap on September 9, 2019 828 Los Angeles

Hoppin’ Good News: We’re selling tickets to the Disneyland Resort! Take a look at our discounts on Disneyland tickets, including Park Hoppers for Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park. Ribbit!

As you get ready to plan your Disneyland trip, it's helpful to know which rides, restaurants and attractions may be closed or undergoing refurbishment during your visit. Here is the list of scheduled Disneyland refurbishments and permanent ride closings. Permanent closures are attractions that are no longer active in the parks, refurbishments are temporary closures, and seasonal closures take place annually. All of these refurbishments and closings are subject to change without notice.

Side note: It's no secret Disneyland Resort is going through some major changes! Disney California Adventure Park transformed into Pixar Pier last summer, and Disneyland Park is adding a Star Wars-themed land, Galaxy's Edge in summer 2019, and unnamed Marvel-themed land in 2020. (Read more about what's coming to Disneyland!) With changes, there are sometimes ride closures! Don't fret! There is still plenty to do and see at both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure.

I just noticed that pirates of the Caribbean will be closed for refurbishment beginning late April. Any idea how long that refurbishment will take? We are going in September. That's the ride my kids are looking forward to most and they have never been to disneyland so that would be a huge disappointment.

Hi. We are planning a trip for early September and I am wondering if any rides (Haunted Mansion or Space Mountain) will be closed to get their holiday overlays. Do you know what the dates for September closures have been for which rides over the past couple of years? Or what to expect and plan around? Thanks!

Hi Kelly,

Haunted Mansion tends to close late August (somewhere around the 20th) and reopens early September (usually the first week). Space Mountain doesn't take as long to install the Ghost Galaxy overlay and is usually just closed for a few days early September. As soon as we know the exact dates, we'll be sure to post them!

Because of some recent family issues, I most likely

will no longer be able to go to Disneyland in the

late winter/early spring like I normally have in the

past. So I guess from now on, my only other

choice is to go to Disneyland in late June. There

are only four rides that I absolutely must ride: the

monorail ride, the "Alice in Wonderland" ride, the

"Haunted Mansion" ride, and the train ride. I know

that these four rides are almost always available

throughout the late winter/early spring, unless it

happens to rain (which it does quite often at that

time of the year). I was just wondering if these four

rides have ever been scheduled for refurbishments

in late June (because several Disney "experts" are

saying that late June is actually the "least busy"

part of the summer at Disneyland), or do they

leave these rides "alone" during the whole

summer season?

Reply
Mar 22, 2018 at 1:59 p.m. FrogBlog Says...

Hi Ron,

In our experience, those rides are usually open during summer! Refurbishments are often unpredictable and do tend to pop up randomly, though, so just keep that in mind. Keep checking this post to see any new scheduled refurbishments!

We're going March 11-15. Was originally planning to do DCA on Mon and Wed, and DL on Tues and Thurs. But with all the DCA closures, I wonder if we even need 2 days. Would it be better to do 3 days at DL, and only 1 day at DCA with all these refurbishments?

We've never seen Mickey & the Magical Map, and I see it's only available on Mondays. But to do that and only have 2 days in DL, we'd have to give up our Blue Bayou reservations on Tues. (Not going to give up the Plaza Inn Minnie breakfast on Thurs.)

Our Minnie breakfast reservation is at 7:30, which would make it difficult to do a Magic Morning that same day and really take advantage of it. But it all works out if we do DL on Mon, Tues, and Thurs, and only DCA on Wed? Is that a good idea or bad idea?

Hi Rebecca!

Disneyland hasn't officially scheduled this closure yet, but we're almost certain it's coming later this year.

Hello! Didn’t have time to read thru all the comments so I’m sorry if this question was already asked. I saw that Radiator Springs Racers is down and haven’t been able to find anything about when it will reopen. Do you have any info? TIA!

My husband and I are visiting Disneyland this weekend (2/23-2/25) - it's the first time for both of us! Is it worth to buy 3 full days or should we stick to 2 days with all of the closures?

Hi Madison,

It looks like this weekend will be moderately busy according to our Crowd Calendar, so 3 days might be worth it, especially if it's your first time! You'll want to have time to explore everything and experience attractions that you're excited for.

Hi Julia!

We haven't heard anything on when Dumbo would be reopened. We don't want to get your hopes up, but our best guess is that it will be back open in time for your trip.

I read that the roller coaster and mickey wheel may have soft openings on April during pixarfest. Any word on if we may be able to ride them late april 21-29

Hi Jennifer!

Soft openings are rarely officially announced by Disney, and we haven't heard about this - so unfortunately, we can't confirm. Consider it an awesome surprise if it happens!

I believe Pixar World opens April 13th, so I would assume you will be fine.

Hi Jeff!

Pixar Pier does not open until June 23. However, Pixar Fest will begin on April 13 and include a fun, new parade and show.

I noticed on the schedule for February and March that there doesn't seem to be any firework shows. Are they suspended for any reason? thanks!

Hi Kathy!

Construction taking place on Main Street and in the soon-to-be Pixar Pier is the reason behind the lack of firework shows. They should be back in April!

Hello!

My wife and I are planning a trip to Disneyland on March 6th. We're super excited about it! I wanted to see if you all think the walls on town square and main street will fully be up at that time. Is there any update there? Thanks!

Do you know if California screaming and the redwood playstructure will be open this weekend?

Also wondering about the Casey train. Thanks!

Hi Woodsy,

California Screamin' won't be open until this summer when it reopens as Incredicoaster! We're sad it's closed, too, but super pumped for its transformation. It looks like Casey Jr. Circus Train and Redwood Creek Challenge will both reopen on March 2. But stay tuned for any changes!

Hi Sabrina!

We hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the Disneyland site does not show Splash Mountain being open on these dates. However, there's always a good chance this can change - so keep an eye out!
