I noticed on a few rides I was on that a certain mountain ride I saw from afar was being worked on construction-wise. I was there April 17th, 2018. I know that Matterhorn was closed during this period, but it didn’t look like the Matterhorn ride. It looked like a bigger, different mountain ride. What exactly was I seeing?

Disneyland hasn't yet announced whether or not a new princess dining experience will be replacing Ariel's Grotto. I think REDUCED pricing is in order for these closures and refurbishings. No one goes to the parks to find out that one of their favorite rides is closed or permanently removed. Keep in mind kids are not the only people in the crowd. Way too much emphasis on new character rides. Just don't forget the older kids.

Ron Says...

Because of some recent family issues, I most likely

will no longer be able to go to Disneyland in the

late winter/early spring like I normally have in the

past. So I guess from now on, my only other

choice is to go to Disneyland in late June. There

are only four rides that I absolutely must ride: the

monorail ride, the "Alice in Wonderland" ride, the

"Haunted Mansion" ride, and the train ride. I know

that these four rides are almost always available

throughout the late winter/early spring, unless it

happens to rain (which it does quite often at that

time of the year). I was just wondering if these four

rides have ever been scheduled for refurbishments

in late June (because several Disney "experts" are

saying that late June is actually the "least busy"

part of the summer at Disneyland), or do they

leave these rides "alone" during the whole

summer season?

Hi Dimitrios,

Right now, there are currently no parades taking place at Disneyland until Pixar Play Parade begins on April 13! Paint the Night Parade will be returning at Disney California Adventure Park on April 13. It depends on the parade on what time it will start. Paint the Night Parade is a nighttime parade, so it will start in the evening. We aren't exactly sure of what time the parades will start, though, so keep an eye out!

Hi! I am showing on the Disneyland site that based on the calendar search for ride closures, that Matterhorn will be closed starting April 16th. Do you know anything about this and how long it usually stays down? Also, if they are opening Pixar Pier mid April, will most of the stuff still be closed until late June? Any update on when the Incredicoaster will be open?

Hi Valarie!

Pixar Fest will begin in April, but Pixar Pier will not be fully opening (including Incredicoaster) until June. No worries about the Matterhorn - there are no upcoming closures. The Disneyland site just only displays operating hours for the next six weeks at a time!

Yes this is what I saw too! How long do they usually close this ride for refurbishment?

Hi Valarie,

It really just depends! Sometimes refurbishments can last for just a day or two and sometimes they can last for weeks or months. Historically, Matterhorn has gone down for a few weeks. As soon as we know the end date, we'll post it!

We're going March 11-15. Was originally planning to do DCA on Mon and Wed, and DL on Tues and Thurs. But with all the DCA closures, I wonder if we even need 2 days. Would it be better to do 3 days at DL, and only 1 day at DCA with all these refurbishments?

We've never seen Mickey & the Magical Map, and I see it's only available on Mondays. But to do that and only have 2 days in DL, we'd have to give up our Blue Bayou reservations on Tues. (Not going to give up the Plaza Inn Minnie breakfast on Thurs.)

Our Minnie breakfast reservation is at 7:30, which would make it difficult to do a Magic Morning that same day and really take advantage of it. But it all works out if we do DL on Mon, Tues, and Thurs, and only DCA on Wed? Is that a good idea or bad idea?

Hey! This site has been amazing help as our family plans our first Disneyland trip for March 19th-23rd. I can't find where I read it, but I think the fireworks are currently not happening. Is there an ETA to their return?

Will the closure of Paradise Pier affect crowds during Spring break time at all? We are considering the week of April 9-13 but know that is right in the middle of Spring break.

Hi Tara!

Spring break will definitely bring in heavier crowds, and Paradise Pier's closure may make it slightly busier. But no worries, you'll still have a blast!

Apologies if this has already been asked. Does anyone know the closure dates for Pirates at Disneyland? We plan on being there May 08 and was planning to dine at Blue Bayou but not sure the experience will be the same with the closure of the ride.

Hi Tina!

Exact dates haven't been confirmed by Disney, but it will be later this year. Our best guess is that Pirates will still be open in May, but keep an eye on this post for updates.

Hello, and thank you for your helpful advice. I surprising my girlfriend with a trip to Disneyland on may 24 also made a dinner reservation for that night. But I thought I saw something about pirates being closed that day and it would be a bummer ylto not be able to go on that ride and have dinner next to a construction site. Would you recommend maybe going in June or do you think that it would be up and running by then? Thank you so much for your help

Hi Amir!

Unfortunately, a reopening date has not yet been announced for Pirates, so we can't be sure if going in June instead would make a difference. We recommend sticking with your May 24 trip! We don't think the construction will interfere with your meal.
