Disneyland Refurbishments & Closings

by Leap on November 18, 2019 845 Los Angeles

Hoppin’ Good News: We’re selling tickets to the Disneyland Resort! Take a look at our discounts on Disneyland tickets, including Park Hoppers for Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park. Ribbit!

As you get ready to plan your Disneyland trip, it's helpful to know which rides, restaurants and attractions may be closed or undergoing refurbishment during your visit. Here is the list of scheduled Disneyland refurbishments and permanent ride closings. Permanent closures are attractions that are no longer active in the parks, refurbishments are temporary closures, and seasonal closures take place annually. All of these refurbishments and closings are subject to change without notice.

Side note: It's no secret Disneyland Resort is going through some major changes! Disney California Adventure Park transformed Pixar Pier last summer, Disneyland Park added a Star Wars-themed land, Galaxy's Edge, in summer 2019, and Avengers Campus, a Marvel Super Hero themed land, will open in 2020. (Read more about what's coming to Disneyland!) With changes, there are sometimes ride closures! Don't fret! There is still plenty to do and see at both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure.

Hi Tom,

Pixar Pier will open during the Pixar Fest, which starts on April 13. That being said, we aren't sure exactly what will still be under construction since much of the attractions on the pier won't open until Summer 2018. Keep an eye out for more updates!

Hi there,

We will be going to Disneyland next weekend. Jan 6th and 8th will be spent in Disney and Jan 7th will be spent at California Adventure. It seems like most things are closing on the 8th, super sad to see splash mountain is closing early. Will they still have the parades and shows? We’ve never been there on a transitional time before and want to be prepared for what’s going to not be there.

Has the "bride auction scene" inside the "pirates" ride at DISNEYLAND in CALIFORNIA changed to the "surrender the loot scene" yet (as of today, December 28th, 2017, that is...)??? I know that "scene" won't start to "change" until the ride is closed for refurbishment in mid-February at WDW in FLORIDA, but I am more interested in when it will "change" at DISNEYLAND in CALIFORNIA since that is the only Disney theme park I really go to anymore... It probably will already be "changed" by the time I go there next (early summer of 2018), but I want to at least know if it has "changed" yet or not... Thanks in advance for your time!!!

Reply
Jan 3, 2018 at 6:02 p.m. Justine Says...

Why are they changing the Bride Auction Scene? That really bothers me how they will mess with original themes. Over the years how many people have come to love that ride and love to come back and see it as they remembered it. I hope it’s not being changed because some virtue signalling small minds cannot get into the Disney spirit and see it for what it is (a show) and not as a political statement!

Reply
Jan 3, 2018 at 1:28 p.m. FrogBlog Says...

Hi Justine,

We totally understand loving the original ride...we do too! Disney is always evolving its attractions. We're unsure of the specific reasoning behind it, but we're sure the new scene will be just as great.

As of today, I'm looking at the January 7 through January 12 Disneyland calendar online, and seeing no shows and no parades at all. Does that calendar ever change after posting? Also, it shows no fireworks for January 7, which surprised me because I thought that was still considered the end of the holiday season. I knew it was going to be a quiet time, but this seems ridiculous. Any thoughts or hope would be appreciated.

Any idea when pirates of Caribbean will close in 2018? Planning a trip 2/5-2/8. Was closed last year during this time. Any info would be appreciated!

I am also planning a trip end of Jan, early Feb. I think it's ridiculous that Disney doesn't release the schedule sooner. Guaranteed they already know the schedule and have known for months if not longer. It makes it so hard to plan a trip. I can't book hotel reservations until I've 100% confirmed the schedule. Pirates is the one ride that is my deal breaker. If it's not running, I don't go, no exceptions.

Any word on what rides will not be operating in January 2018? Specifically, MLK weekend?

Just got our tickets for 11/16/17 and read that Star Tours will be implementing their new Last Jedi overlays on 11/17/17, is there a chance that the ride will be closed on the 16th? That was the only reason we were picking Dland over CAdventure. Our little Sith is juuuuuuust 40 inches tall and can finally ride!

Hi,

Do you have any idea if "it's tough to be a bug" will be it's original attraction once it reopens on November 3rd? It seems to be a premiere show every time we visit now and my boyfriend has never been able to see the original show. I have a feeling it will be a premiere again but wanted to check if you knew. Thanks a lot!

Aside from the Disneyland calendar showing Big Thunder Mountain Railroad as being closed on Oct 2, and every day thereafter, there is no information about when it will reopen. I am eagerly checking the calendar each day hoping it will be back up by October 20th, but does anyone have any info in this closure?
