Hi! My brother and I will be making our very first trip to Disneyland this year! We’ve been to Disney World more times than I can count, and Haunted Mansion is my all time fav, while Space Mountain is my brother’s. Go figure, our trip has ended up being from August 26th until September 6th. You know, right around when both apparently go down for some seasonal overlays in California, wicked awesome!????Soooo...anybody remember the EXACT timeframes of the closures the last few years? Think we got a shot at either, whether it’s before or after? Fingers crossed?

Hi Kara,

Oh, no! We don't have any specifics on when the rides closed in the past, and we hate to be the bearer of bad news, but there is very little chance you'll be able to experience either of these attractions. They both close for about 3 weeks at the end of August. Keep an eye out on this post for details closer to your trip! We'll cross our fingers for you.

We are making the trip from the East coast to experience Disneyland (We've dive Disney World a few times) the last week of February. I'm getting nervous that between construction and refurbishments and whatever else, nothing fun will be open for my 12 and 10 year old girls ????????????.

No worries. We know it seems like a LOT is under construction right now, but there is so much to do at Disneyland. Your 10 and 12 year-old girls will have an absolute blast throughout both parks. There are still plenty of attractions open to keep you more than busy ... and you'll have a great time, too!

Thank you for your website! It's a fantastic resource that I refer to all the time.

I wanted to see if there was a general update on the walls at Disneyland (particularly on town square/mainstreet). I know that there are a lot construction projects at disneyland. However, is there an estimated time of when those walls will come down on mainstreet/town square? Thanks for your time!

I went with a fractured toe. They have a system where you get a return time At the exit of certain rides so you don’t have to stand in line. You have to get a red tag or something similar at guest services when you first get to the park. You can get one at either California venture or Disneyland and it’s good for both parks for the duration of your stay

Hi Kathy,

Disneyland began replacing the Main Street tracks on Jan. 8. We're not sure how long this will take, but we imagine it's a fairly lengthy process as they are maintaining as much of the original track as possible. Other than Main Street vehicles being out of operation, we don't think this will impact traffic noticeably in the park.

Hi Veronica,

Yes, you'll still be able to see parades and firework shows. The holiday specials (A Christmasy Fantasy Parade, Believe...In Holiday Magic, etc.) will all still be showing.

Keep hopping!

Good morning. Thank you for putting this together! Do you have any idea how long Ariel's Grotto will be closed for refurbishment? Was hoping to take our daughter there on her 5th birthday - March 2, 2018. Are we out of luck?

Sorry to say, but Ariel's grotto will be closed permanently starting Jan 8th, 2018. Pixar Pier will replace that area in summer 2018. My daughters are not happy about that.

Hi Kyle,

We aren't completely sure of when to expect Ariel's Grotto to reopen. Keep checking back! We'll update this post as soon as we know.

Has the "bride auction scene" inside the "pirates" ride at DISNEYLAND in CALIFORNIA changed to the "surrender the loot scene" yet (as of today, December 28th, 2017, that is...)??? I know that "scene" won't start to "change" until the ride is closed for refurbishment in mid-February at WDW in FLORIDA, but I am more interested in when it will "change" at DISNEYLAND in CALIFORNIA since that is the only Disney theme park I really go to anymore... It probably will already be "changed" by the time I go there next (early summer of 2018), but I want to at least know if it has "changed" yet or not... Thanks in advance for your time!!!

Why are they changing the Bride Auction Scene? That really bothers me how they will mess with original themes. Over the years how many people have come to love that ride and love to come back and see it as they remembered it. I hope it’s not being changed because some virtue signalling small minds cannot get into the Disney spirit and see it for what it is (a show) and not as a political statement!

Hi Justine,

We totally understand loving the original ride...we do too! Disney is always evolving its attractions. We're unsure of the specific reasoning behind it, but we're sure the new scene will be just as great.

Hi Ron,

We are unsure of an exact date of when the scene will change at Disneyland. So far it's only been said to open in early 2018. Keep checking back!

Thanks for letting me know...at least I got to see the "bride auction scene" once more this past July, so if it is changed by the time I get there next summer, I guess that will be OK with me...

wondering how long rides close, both the California Screamin and Grizzly Run close a week before we come, any chance they will be back up and running?

Hi there,

If a date has not been revealed for the re-opening, we cannot say for sure. California Screamin' is getting a new ride overlay, so we expect it to be fairly lengthy.

Is there any way of knowing what rides will be closed either in Disneyland or California adventure from February 28th - March 5th? (2018)

We are going in mid-April during Pixar Fest. Do you know if the Pier will be open including the rides for that event, or is it just a character meet and greet event? Also will Ariel's Grotto be made into a new dining experience?

Hi Jenn,

We do know that Pixar Pier will open for a limited time during Pixar Fest, but we are unsure of what it'll all include. The new rides and attractions of Paradise Pier are set to open Summer 2018. Keep checking back for more updates!

Hey Frogblog, my family and I will be staying at the Disneyland paradise pier hotel from 1/29/18 thru 1/31/18. Is there anyway that you could tell me what parades and ride will be done with refurbishing? Thank you and God bless you

Hello, how do you know that Mickey’ s fun wheel and California screaming will open again on February 8 ?. We will go to Disneyland the week of February 10 and it would be great if it really reopened before our arrival. Thank you for the info.

They are redoing the entire pier - so unfortunately it will be closed for a while :(

Is the "it's tough to be a bug" movie closed permanently? I noticed there are no parades listed for Disneyland on the January schedule. Do they usually have a parade then?
