Get Your Tickets

A Halloween Horror Nights ticket will not get you into the theme parks during regular hours. No need to worry, though! We also offer discount tickets for Universal Studios Florida, Universal Islands of Adventure or Universal Volcano Bay if you want to visit during the day. Universal Studios Florida generally closes at 5 p.m. for those not staying for the event (though Universal Islands of Adventure will maintain its normal closing time if you have a park-to-park ticket and would like to hop). You'll also need regular park admission or a Scream Early ticket if you want to take advantage of Halloween Horror Nights early entry. We've written a full post on how Halloween Horror Nights Early Entry works. And don't froget, you can book your discount hotel through us, too!

If you can't get enough screams in one night, there are normally multi-night tickets available directly through Universal Orlando. For 2023, however, all multi-night tickets have officially sold out. (Single night tickets are still available!) Multi-night tickets grant you access to: 1) the first 18 event nights with the Rush of Fear Pass; 2) every Sunday through Thursday, PLUS the first weekend with the Frequent Fear Pass; 3) every Sunday through Friday, PLUS the first and last Saturday with the Frequent Fear Plus Pass; or 4) EVERY night AND get free regular parking after 5 p.m. on all event nights with the Ultimate Frequent Fear Pass. Additionally, Universal directly sells HHN Express Passes, R.I.P. Tours and Behind-the-Screams Tours — all of which are currently available.

Best Dates to Attend Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Florida

Unlike many other fall theme park events that generally bring in families for one night, Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Florida scares up a good portion of guests, especially locals, who attend multiple nights throughout the season to experience the fear over and over. The nature of the event and the number of locals have a significant impact on crowds. Saturdays are the busiest nights, with Friday nights not too far behind them. The very best nights to attend as far as crowds go are Wednesdays. It is nearly impossible to see everything in one night without upgrading your experience (which we'll get into later). Still, picking the best night to attend, as well as following our tips below, will help you see and do as much as you can.

Halloween Horror Nights Orlando Special Experiences

For the first time, horror has spread to all eight hotels with exclusive experiences. "Universal Monsters: Gallery of Legends," a themed lobby photo opportunity honoring these icons of the silver scream, is available at the majority of the hotels, and Universal's Cabana Bay Beach Resort is hosting an exclusive "Chucky's Twisted Playground" photo illusion experience — available to guests of any Universal Orlando Resort hotel.

Those looking for an enhanced Halloween Horror Nights experience might consider one or two scary good add-ons that take you through the gauntlet of ghastly creatures and a multitude of menacing maniacs. The R.I.P. Tour is a guided experience that grants V.I.P. access to everything Halloween Horror Nights has to offer. The tour includes one-time entry to all of the houses, reserved seating at select shows, Universal Express Unlimited ride access at all participating rides and attractions for the date of your tour, a pre-tour reception in Cafe La Bamba, access to exclusive cash bar locations, complimentary valet parking and a commemorative tour credential, lanyard and button. There's also a Private R.I.P. Tour option which grants you and up to nine other frogs all the same perks as the regular R.I.P. Tour. (The R.I.P. Tour can accommodate individual parties of up to 6 people, and will include multiple parties in a group. If your group has 7-10 people, you would need to book a Private R.I.P. Tour.)

The Behind the Screams: Unmasking the Horror Tour gives guests a unique, lights-on look into the Art & Design team’s process as they transform our deepest fears into haunted houses. Guests can choose from Behind the Screams: 3-Haunted House Unmasking the Horror Tour (two and a half hours, morning or afternoon) or a Behind the Screams: 6-Haunted House Unmasking the Horror Tour (five hours). The tours give you the chance to see houses with the lights on and a chance to photograph every gory detail of select rooms in select houses.

Halloween Horror Nights Orlando Park Plan

The biggest draw of the event each year is the haunted houses. It takes months to construct these movie set-quality houses, and each one has a different theme. We probably don't have to tell you that lines can get very long for this event! If you want to make the most of your evening, you need to decide what is important to you. Do you want to just focus on houses? Would you like to see a few houses and a show? Would you just like to ride attractions since the wait times for them will be low? Since the houses are what most people come for — and see the highest waits! — they are our first priority.

We recommend getting to the park at least 45 minutes ahead of the official opening at 6:30 p.m. to make the most of your time. Typically, Universal opens the gates earlier than the official starting time. (If you're staying at one of the Universal Orlando Resort properties — Loews Portofino Bay Hotel, Universal's Hard Rock Hotel, Loews Royal Pacific Resort, Loews Sapphire Falls ResortUniversal's Cabana Bay Beach Resort, Universal's Aventura Hotel or Universal's Endless Summer — take advantage of the priority entrance gate until 8 p.m. to get in more quickly.) In our experience, the gates begin to open for guests between 5:30 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. On opening night, due to weather, the gates opened precisely at 6:30 p.m.

Halloween Horror Nights 2023 - Stranger Things

If experiencing every house is a priority for you, plan on visiting for at least two nights or investing in an Express pass.

Because of the number of houses and the popularity of the event, it is nearly impossible to see them all in one night. We recommend choosing four or five must-do houses and getting those in first. Then, see if you have any time left after you’ve checked them off the list. Those who are staying in the park or arriving ahead of the official opening could do five, six or perhaps even more houses. We have been able to get all 10 houses done by utilizing Stay & Scream and being very strategic with our night — getting the bulk of the houses done during both the early entry period and the last two hours of the event, while taking the middle of the night when wait times are highest to get on rides and see shows.

If you want to experience everything, not have to worry about waiting in long lines, be a little more lax with your night and even get the opportunity to go through a few houses a second time, either plan on visiting Halloween Horror Nights multiple nights, opt for a R.I.P. Tour (only sold through Universal) or purchase a Halloween Horror Nights Express Pass (only sold through Universal). We cannot overstate how invaluable Express is.

This year, at 10:08 p.m. when Universal Monsters: Unmasked had a 45-minute posted wait time, we were able to walk right in with our Express passes. It took us just 7 minutes to get from the entrance near E.T. Adventure all the way backstage to the house itself. We also saved 35 minutes in The Last of Us queue with Express at 11:45 p.m. and a whopping 70 minutes in the Stranger Things queue at the VERY end of the night at 1:55 a.m.

Wait times started hitting their highest points around 7:50 p.m. when Bloodmoon: Dark Offerings peaked at 65 minutes. They died down by around 12:30 a.m. when YETI: Campground Kills peaked at 90 minutes. The highest wait times we saw all night were Dueling Dragons: Choose Thy Fate when it peaked at 120 minutes around 9:45 p.m. and Chucky: Ultimate Kill Count when it peaked at 120 minutes around 11:15 p.m. The lowest wait time we saw was Chucky at 5 minutes during the Stay & Scream period around 6:15 p.m.

As for those two fan-favorite houses: Stranger Things had its lowest wait of 25 minutes during the Stay & Scream period up until about 6:15 p.m. and its highest wait of 115 minutes between around 9:40 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. The Last of Us had its lowest wait of 45 minutes just after park opening until about 7:10 p.m. and its highest wait of 100 minutes around 8:55 p.m.

Halloween Horror Nights 2023 Haunted Houses

This year, frogs can look forward to conquering 10 horrifically haunted abodes at Universal Studios Florida. From TV's psycho killer dolls to Playstation's post-pandemic apocalypse, danger lurks around every corner. Halloween Horror Nights houses in 2023 include:

Chucky: Ultimate Kill Count

Get ready for a little child's play this fall. "Chucky," based on the hit series from SYFY & USA, is coming to Halloween Horror Nights. Everyone's favorite killer doll will once again be reigning terror in his very own haunted house for the first time. Don't let the freckled cheeks and bibbed overalls fool you. Chucky wants revenge and respect, as his peers don't take him seriously. You may think you can outrun his tiny legs, but very few escape the blade of his trusty knife. "Hi-de-ho," ... suckers.

Featuring scenes from the TV show, such as that jaw-dropping Christmas chainsaw kill, and beloved characters from the franchise, such as Glenda — Chucky and Tiffany's evil spawn — Charles Lee Ray pulls out all the stops for his brand-new house. The house begins with Chucky offing all the designers of the original concept for his house this year ... before inviting you into a maze of his own creation. It's gory. It's disgusting (in the best way!). And it's ALL CHUCK ALL THE TIME.

The Last of Us

You've played the game, now see if you have what it takes to actually take on the Infected. Set in the post-apocalyptic world of Naughty Dog's dark imagination, this house will drop you right in the Pittsburgh Quarantine Zone where you'll face Runners, Stalkers, Clickers and even The Hunters (the dreaded band of hostile humans) in a desperate attempt to escape and survive. Prepare to navigate iconic locations from the video game, such as the creepy and desolate Hotel Grand and the dark and dank city tunnels as you follow in Joel and Ellie's footsteps. Remember, "When you're lost in the darkness, look for the light."

Don't be lulled into a false sense of security by the soothing Spanish guitar you'll hear waiting in the queue. Once you step inside the walls of this house, you're thrust into a heart-racing fight for survival. This house features one of our favorite atmospheric effects with the infection-inducing cordyceps spores floating through the air. The makeup for the Clickers is incredibly impressive, but the baleful Bloaters take the cake as the standout moment of this house. Trust in Joel and Ellie. They'll guide you to safety as best they can.

Stranger Things

Put on your headphones and hit play on your Walkman. After years of festering in the Upside Down, Henry Creel has arrived in Hawkins and is hell-bent on opening up the barrier between dimensions. Race against the terrifying ticking clock and join Eleven, Max, Eddie and the rest of the party as you confront your deepest fears and come face-to-face with demobats and the villainous Vecna himself. Your campaign to break his curse will lead you through the notorious Hawkins Lab, the enigmatic Creel House and 001's blood-red Mind Lair. Word of advice: "Don't try to be heroes. There is no shame in running."

Easily ranking as our favorite this year, this house is a fan's dream come true. From the moment you step into the Munson trailer, you're fully immersed in the epic battle between Hawkins and the Upside Down. The detail is incredible (look at the floor below Max as she's getting cursed and the ceiling above Steve as he's yelling for Nancy!), the sets are amazing, the casting is on point and the feels are in full force! (Yes, Eddie's highest high and lowest low are depicted.) Keep your guard up until the very end. A certain flower-faced creature may be waiting for you ...

The Exorcist: Believer

Inspired by the upcoming film, "The Exorcist: Believer," an innocuous purchase of a strange doll with three eyes at a street market in Haiti leads to the opening of a demonic portal, awakening evil spirits. Meanwhile, two girls disappear in the U.S. and are found a few days later with no memories. After exhibiting unsettling behavior, it becomes clear that an exorcism is the only thing that can save them — and until then, anyone who comes in contact is at risk of losing their souls.

A surprise at every turn (since this film doesn't premiere until October), this house is as gross, gory and gut-filled as you would expect a house about an exorcism to be. From the dead animal corpses in the Haitian market to the devilish demons just waiting for you to cross their paths, this is one house that isn't for the easily queasy. The fight for Angela and Katherine's souls is hard to watch, but that just means the scream team behind this house is firing on all cylinders. Quite the exhilarating experience!

Universal Monsters: Unmasked

Halloween Horror Nights 2023 - Monsters Unmasked

The Catacombs of Paris are now open to the public! But little do guests know that the most notorious monsters — The Phantom of the Opera, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and The Invisible Man — are lurking 60 feet below the infamous burial grounds, filled with rage that their labyrinth home is now being invaded by these trespassers.

Taking the silver medal as our second favorite house, the Universal Monsters once again prove why they're silver screen legends. Enter a rainy Parisian street where a constable warns you of what lies in the unnerving underground. From the grand Theatre de L'Opera where an organ cue announces the Phantom's entrance to the iconic bell towers of Notre Dame where the Hunchback seeks revenge from above (not to mention some epic effects for The Invisible Man), this house will leave you in awe until the final triple scare.

Dr. Oddfellow: Twisted Origins

Halloween Horror Nights 2023 - Twisted Origins

Many know the origin story of Jack the Killer Clown, but this house will dive deeper into the lore of his evil ring leader and mastermind, Dr. Oddfellow, and his menacing menagerie of twisted oddities.

The doctor is in ... and we're as giddy as a corrupted clown about it. Enter this seriously twisted circus tent of terrors where the atrocious acts will amaze, astonish and appall you. This house features one bloodthirsty caged wild animal, puffs of air from throwing knives and the possible murder/origin of the famed clown prince of pain. There's nowhere left to run. The demented doctor has captured your soul and is using his newfound power to reap chaos far and wide. (Look for him in each scare zone on your travels throughout the night.)

Dueling Dragons: Choose Thy Fate

Remember the former Dueling Dragons roller coaster at Islands of Adventure? Prepare yourself for a horrific twist to the familiar tale and battle between Fire and Ice — two warlocks of great power who were turned into dragons after fighting over Merlyn's spell book. You must choose a path and a victor, and it better be the right one.

If you remember dining at The Enchanted Oak Tavern in The Lost Continent, the opening scene might just bring a tear to your eye. A beautiful expansion on the story of a beloved attraction, this house is filled with fairies, orcs, ogres, princesses and magic and mayhem at every turn. As the title demands, choose your fate toward the end of the house. Freeze or burn and find out if you have successfully saved the kingdom, or if your dragon of choice has simply made a meal of you.

YETI: Campground Kills

Bloodthirsty monsters have returned with a vengeance, this time terrorizing a 1950s campground deep within the mountains and ripping apart anyone who gets in their way.

Quite possibly taking the crown for our favorite house in terms of set design, what starts as a quaint and quiet campground turns into the scene of a horrific bloodbath. From the demolished wooden cabins to the scratched-up, fireplace-lit tents to the patio which overlooks a breathtaking pond (where one scare got me good because I was so entranced in the set!), there's nowhere to hide from the enormous and murderous yeti. Oh, and if you know about the HHN Bear, this house has a little surprise for you!

The Darkest Deal

Halloween Horror Nights 2023 - Darkest Deal

Blues musician Pinestraw Spruce sells his soul to The Collector for musical glory and quickly learns that fame isn't all that it's cut out to be.

"The Devil went down to Georgia ... He was lookin' for a soul to steal ..." Loosely based on the urban legend of Blues guitarist Robert Johnson, this house transports you to the lively Bub's Lounge where Pinestraw is hoppily strumming away on stage to the cold and dark cemetery where you learn of the grim fate the doomed musician will succumb to. Finally, you descend into the infernal realm where Pinestraw will spend the rest of eternity as the Devil and his imps celebrate their newest arrival.

Bloodmoon: Dark Offerings

In a colonial-era village, moon-worshippers celebrate a blood moon at their fall festival and slaughter those who do not participate.

Enter the dark and demented Parish Town where the Blood Moon has risen and the false-hearted must perish. Keep your eyes on the skies because as long as the Blood Moon is shining bright, it's sure to be a night of fright. The deviously devout villagers are looking for their next sacrifice, and it could very well be you. Stay alert because the end of this house holds many surprise scares that will surely shock and shake you. "[N]ever send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee."

Halloween Horror Nights 2023 Scare Zones

Second to the houses, but central to the terror, are the street experiences, more commonly referred to as "scare zones." The scare zones are in various open areas of the park with their own sets, sounds and, yes, even scents. Expect to be terrified and harassed by creatures of the night. These scare actors come out of nowhere and have no illusions about respecting your personal space (although they are not allowed to touch you, and you are not allowed to touch them)! This year, Dr. Oddfellow is taking over the streets.

Dr. Oddfellow's Collection of Horror

Halloween Horror Nights 2023 - Oddfellow

Come face to face with the evil ringleader himself, as he promises immortality for those who dare to join his tortured troupe.

In a slightly new location this year in front of TODAY Cafe, the opening scare zone is the first place you'll encounter the good doctor on your travels. Of course, he's brought along his menacing menagerie — one of whom gave Mommy Frog her biggest scare of the night!

Dark Zodiac

Seeking his own immortality, Dr. Oddfellow enters a dark dimension to bring the signs of the Zodiac to life and turns them into horrifying horoscope creatures that foretell your doom.

Have you missed the lullaby of chainsaws? Well, you'll be hoppy to find them in the Hollywood scare zone, along with a haunting array of Zodiac creatures — each of whom exhibits the vilest traits of their respective star sign. We give this one the gold star for our favorite scare zone!

Jungle of Doom: Expedition Horror

In the 1920s, Dr. Oddfellow ventures deep into the jungle and experiments on Mother Nature and animals. Now his twisted creatures are preying on the bottom of the food chain — humans.

Don't get lost in the fog of Central Park. There are creatures of untold terror lurking in this jungle. Dr. Oddfellow has unearthed an ancient idol and the ungodly monsters he created with it are straight out of your worst nightmares.

Vamp '69: Summer of Blood

Halloween Horror Nights 2023 - Vamp 69

At a 60s music fest in a small New York town, concert-goers are jamming out until Dr. Oddfellow unleashes bloodthirsty vampires into the crowds.

From "Sweet Caroline" to "Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In," the music on loop at this frightful New York festival was a huge highlight of the night! The vibes are also all-around totally groovy. I mean, who doesn't love a vicious horde of hippie vampires forming a conga line?

Shipyard 32: Horrors Unhinged

In a 1940s San Francisco shipping yard, mysterious crates and cages turn up with Dr. Oddfellow's symbol. His creatures have now escaped, spreading fear and chaos.

Menacing monsters and corrupt creatures from regions beyond have washed ashore in San Francisco. Heed the warnings of the shipyard workers. You do not want to get on these beasts' bad side. (We have to give a shoutout to the beautifully haunting soundtrack in this scare zone!)

Halloween Horror Nights 2023 Entertainment

Every year, Universal produces electrifying entertainment so you can take a break from the terror.

Nightmare Fuel Revenge Dream

A fiery new show has been igniting Halloween Horror Nights the last two years, featuring nocturnal creatures, aerialists of the night and frightful fire performers. Set to pulse-pounding rock, metal and electronica music, this epic performance has been loud enough to drown out the screams. This year, a new dreamer confronts a creature that has been haunting her nightmares.

Death Eaters Encounter

Halloween Horror Nights 2023 - Death Eaters

Wands at the ready! We're so frogcited that, for the first time ever, the villainous Death Eaters are wandering the London waterfront, strolling down Diagon Alley and lurking in Knockturn Alley on select dates Sep. 1 through Nov. 4, 2023. Catch their petrifying opening performance on the stage in Carkitt Market.

M3GAN Horde

"This is the part where you run." We could not be more psyched that a roaming horde of M3GANs has been unleashed on Halloween Horror Nights! Be sure to keep your eyes peeled. They're dancing the night away somewhere ...

Halloween Horror Nights 2023 Food and Merchandise

Halloween Horror Nights 2023 - Trifle Cake

Universal's culinary artists always go all out for All Hallow's Eve. Expect deviously delicious dishes themed to this year's houses, such as "Last of Us"-inspired Cordyceps Corndogs and Left Behind Ravioli, "Stranger Things"-inspired Surfer Boy Hawaiian Pizza and "Chucky"-inspired Fried 'til the End Chicken and Pop-Dead Corn. New this year, frogs get to enter Peacock's Halloween Horror Bar, an ominous nightclub featuring themed librations and photo opportunities — including one with the one and only David S. Pumpkins of Saturday Night Live fame! Don't froget to pop into the Tribute Store for some more sinfully sweet treats, such as the Chucky Trifle Cake.

Is your stomach growling already? Hop on over to our Halloween Horror Nights foodie guide where we shared everything you need to know about all the Halloween food and drink offerings resort-wide, from right outside the haunted houses to safe inside the hotels.

Halloween Horror Nights Merchandise

Halloween Horror Ninths 2023 - Tribute Store

Each year, the event’s merchandise typically features all of the haunted houses and scare zones, so you’ll be sure to find a nice memento (whether it’s a sweatshirt or a souvenir cup) for Halloween Horror Nights 2023. Pop into Universal Studios' Tribute Store to get all your ghostly goodies.

This year, an all-new Tribute Store explores a mysterious NYC Comic Book Shop where you'll step into the pages of "Tribute to Terror," the original, horror comic book. The creepy Curator will guide you through four frightening tales of terror: "Graves Consequences" where massive skeletons have risen from the grounds of Hollow Hills Cemetery, "False Idols: Part 1, A Boris Shuster Mystery" where the famed private eye has released a tentacled terror onto the streets of New York, "Pay Up" where the devil himself has sucked the souls out of the patrons of Jim's Diner and "Eyes of the Ripper" where the notorious serial killer is on his infamous killing spree in 1888 Whitechapel.

Halloween Horror Nights 2023 - Masks

You can usually find T-shirts, sippers, candles and other ghoulish delights here, as well as in Five & Dime and the Universal Studios Store in Universal Studios, the Universal Studios Store in CityWalk and the Islands of Adventure Trading Company and the All Hallows' Eve Boutique in Islands of Adventure.

Other Universal Studios Florida shopping venues open during the event are:

  • Supply Vault
  • The Film Vault
  • Sahara Traders

Tips for Attending Halloween Horror Nights 2023 at Universal Studios Florida

Before you read any further, be sure to hop on over to our Halloween Horror Nights planning tips blog to get all the must-know info as you're preparing for your descent into the fog. Additionally, check out our terrifying tips to maximize your time. The night goes fast and every sinister second counts!

1. Consider an Express Pass

We always get asked if the Express Passes are worth it. Our answer is that it really depends on when you're going and if you want to hit all 10 houses in one night. We'd definitely recommend it on Fridays and Saturdays in October, especially closer to Halloween. Wednesdays and Thursdays are less busy days, and if you take advantage of early entry (see our next tip!), you have a better chance of hitting all 10 houses without an Express Pass.

Universal does sell Express Passes at kiosks throughout the park. So if you change your mind while you're there, you have that last-minute opportunity. You can also buy an Express Pass that's half the original price but it only works after 11 p.m. Just keep in mind that both of these Express Pass options are subject to availability.

2. Arrive Early

HHN Orlando - Hotel Guest Priority Entrance

We can't stress this enough: Arriving early is the single best way to ensure you make the most of your night. The event typically begins at 6:30 p.m., but Universal often lets guests in up to half an hour early. Universal Resort hotel guests also have a dedicated line from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the left side of the entrance. Even better is staying in the park after it closes for early entry, so you can hit a few houses before it gets super busy later at night.

3. Dress Light and Stay Hydrated

Is it just us, or is September in Orlando hotter than ever before? Despite taking place mostly after dark, we were still sweating our 'lil frog legs off all weekend at Halloween Horror Nights 32. Wear cool, comfortable clothes.

On top of being deceptively hot and humid, Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Florida is a pretty intense event. Bring a water bottle to make staying cool a breeze and save money (make sure it's empty before going through security or else they'll ask you to dump it; can fill it up once inside the park) or purchase the HHN Freestyle cup for a fun souvenir. Aside from that, only bottled water is available for purchase.

4. Eat Early

Halloween Horror Nights 2023 - Surfer Boy Pizza

You'll find snacks for sale, as well as alcohol in abundance, throughout the park. Look for carts set up along the streets. Lines for food and drinks can get long at times! Fuel up before you leave or early in the evening, and you can spend more time getting the daylights scared out of you. We noticed food lines started to decrease after midnight.

5. Splurge on Snacks

If you have time to dedicate to fun food and drinks, check out the event-exclusive goodies. Eating (and Instagramming, TBH) these goodies is always enjoyable.

6. Watch Out for the Creatures of the Night!

Halloween Horror Nights 2023 - Collection of Horror

If you want to avoid the street creatures, although we can't imagine why you'd want to, they largely stick to the streets and leave guests on the sidewalks alone.

7. Respect the Scare Actors

Last but not least, please remember that the scare actors are people too! No matter how monstrous they may seem, the scare actors will not actually touch or hurt you ... so please treat them with the same respect! Keep your hands, food, drinks and any unkind words to yourself for the best experience for everyone involved. This event is all about having FUN! Avoid using flash to photograph any "creatures" in the scare zones, and just ask if you really feel the need. They'll usually be happy to pose for (or with!) you.

I've only been a couple of times, and it's been a while since my last HHN trip, I enjoyed myself immensely. Just watching people get scared at the Scare Zones is fun.
