Parks News: Halloween Horror Nights Begins; Disney Vacation Club Heads to the Polynesian

by Leap on September 20, 2013

Hi there! Welcome to our weekly roundup of the most interesting news surrounding Disney and the Orlando theme parks.

This week’s highlights:

  • Halloween Horror NightsThe big news, you may have already guessed if you saw our earlier post, is that tonight is the first night of Halloween Horror Nights 23. To mark the occasion, we looked at this year's expected highlights, including the houses, street experiences and rides. We want to know what you think makes Halloween Horror Nights such a great scare experience. Share in comments below.
  • If you're attending the event this year, you might actually catch the whiff of decay, especially in one of the Walking Dead street experiences. The Orlando Sentinel has the lowdown on what goes into creating the event scents.
  • Get ready to hunt for Mini-figs! LEGOLAND Florida has put together a list of tips for those who are attending Brick-Or-Treat during weekends in October.
  • Mummy at Magic KingdomI couldn't help but get hungry when I saw all of the treats created for Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party -- especially the chocolate mummy! Even better, the treats are available all day long at Magic Kingdom not just during the party!
  • We can put one of those theme park rumors to rest. Disney Vacation Club has confirmed that it is building time shares at the Polynesian Resort. Construction has already begun.
  • The Walt Disney World Resort has added "experimental" bus service between Disney's Animal Kingdom and Downtown Disney from now until Oct. 31. The service runs from 3 p.m. until 1 a.m., giving guests the option of leaving their cars at the park while they enjoy a night out at Downtown Disney, which has begun construction as it gets transformed into Disney Springs.
  • SplitsvilleSpeaking of Downtown Disney, the entire month of October you can sample bargain bites of the most popular dishes at seven restaurants during Downtown Disney Foodtopia.
  • Lastly, the Disney Parks Blog has put together a few helpful hints for making your visit as stress-free as possible, many of which we've shared before on Our Top 10 Tips for Downtown Disney. For Mommy Frog in particular, Downtown Disney is always a must-do, and her two most important tips for avoiding crowds and parking hassles are to arrive before 5 p.m., and park behind La Nouba if you aren't taking Disney transportation. Do you have tips for Downtown Disney? Share in comments below!

That’s all for this week. Have a great weekend!

If you're thinking about a trip to Disney World, make sure to check out the other news, tips and information we post to the blog throughout the week. If you’re ready to plan your trip, we recommend you start with our planning pages.
