Let's-a Go! How To Access Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Hollywood

Inside This Post Inside This Post

Our entire frog squad enjoys visiting Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Hollywood, and our tadpoles absolutely love it! It's nearly a year from when the land opened Feb. 17, 2023, and it is still drawing fans to the park. Since the Super Nintendo World is still fairly new, the park has been very busy this past year with other Super Mario fans (just as excited as Tad). If you're looking to visit Super Nintendo World during this hoppin' time at the park, there are multiple ways to gain access to the land. With that being said, let's hop to it and break down the different kinds of Universal ticket options available to access Super Nintendo World, as well as the Virtual Line needed to access the land with general admission to the park.

Let's-a Go! How To Access Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Hollywood - entrance

Overview of Getting Into Super Nintendo World Hollywood

As we previously mentioned, there are many ways to gain access to Super Nintendo World inside Universal Studios Hollywood. Most days, you can just walk right in. On busy Saturdays or peak periods, such as holidays, the land might hit capacity and form a physical or virtual line. For those days, you'll need a plan of action.

There are seven different ways to get inside the colorful, new land (including walking right in if the Virtual Line is not in use). We'll also go over which ticket you should purchase if you want to visit Super Nintendo World during Halloween Horror Nights. (Yet another way to get in during that season!)

Below, we will explain the difference between each of these entry and ticket options. You can use this guide to decide which suits you and your frog family best! We'll even throw in some tips for maximizing your frogtastic visit.

Walk Right In (or Wait in Line)

How To Access Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Hollywood - Line to get in the land

In the morning and most weekdays, you can generally just walk right in all day long. At busy times, once the land starts getting full, a line may form to the right for people without Early Access, Universal Express, a Toadstool Café reservation or a disability Mario Kart return time. Once that line gets long, a Virtual Line may open in the Universal Studios App. But we are here to tell you all the ways to skip that line if it forms. Most days, you can just walk right in though.

Join the Virtual Line for Super Nintendo World (Only When Needed)

Since Super Nintendo World is still a new addition to the park, entry to the land is sometimes determined by a Virtual Line reservation system. (More so on holidays and busy school breaks.) When the park holds a large number of guests, a Virtual Line reservation becomes a requirement to enter the land (if you do not have other ways which we will discuss below). If you would like to visit Super Nintendo World but also want to save some money and stick to general admission, this is the option for you. But keep in mind this is only needed for those super busy days and holidays.

How to Access Super Nintendo World - Super Nintendo World Virtual Line

How do I know if I need to join the Virtual Line?

Guests can figure out if they need to join the Virtual Line to visit the land by tapping on the Virtual Line box located on the home screen of the Universal Studios Hollywood app. After tapping the box, check the tab labeled Virtual Line Venues to see which attractions are operating on a Virtual Line that day. If Super Nintendo World does not appear as one of the Virtual Line venues, you do not need to join the Virtual Line. If it does, then you need to join the Virtual Line.

How do I join the Virtual Line?

This option is available on a first-come, first-served basis, and time slots can fill up extremely quickly. Keep in mind, that you can only join the Virtual Line if you are inside Universal Studios Hollywood. Make sure to be in the park early when trying to join. The last time we visited, we attempted to join the queue on a weekday, an hour after Universal opened (at 10 a.m.) — leaving us only with Virtual Line time slot options from 5 p.m. and later. (We had a small group. Larger groups may be even harder to accommodate). You can reserve up to 10 people at a time.

To join the Virtual Line, click on the Virtual Line box on the Universal Studios Hollywood app. Tap on Virtual Line Venues. Once you see Super Nintendo World as one of the venues, tap on it. Select the Virtual Line Pass button. Next to this button is the word Reserve. Tap on either of those two phrases, then input your party size to find an available time slot to return. Once you have confirmed your desired time slot to visit the land, you will receive a QR code needed to enter the land at the time of your reservation.

You can also join the Virtual Line through the physical kiosks at the park. There are a few located in the Upper Lot near Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem and more in the Lower Lot to the right of Transformers: The Ride. However, these kiosks may close early once the Virtual Line availability closes for the day. If you are unable to join the Virtual Line (through either your mobile device or at a physical kiosk) early in the day, you can continue to check the Universal Studios Hollywood app throughout your visit to see if any available time slots have opened up.

How to Access Super Nintendo World - Virtual Line Reservation

How do I enter the land with my Virtual Line reservation?

As many aspects of accessing this new land are still changing, entering the land can be a little tricky regardless of which method you're using. Directly in front of Transformers: The Ride, is the entry area for all guests trying to access the land. To the left, parties can enter with Early Access, Virtual Line reservations, Toadstool Café reservations, disability return times, Express, Unlimited Express and VIP Experience tours. To the right is a stand-by waiting area.

Once your Virtual Line time slot has arrived, make your way to the entry area. Be prepared to have the QR code scanned.

Buy An Early Access Ticket for Super Nintendo World

Our favorite way to access and enjoy Super Nintendo World is by purchasing an Early Access ticket. That allows a guest to enter the land one hour before the park's opening. The Early Access ticket is sold in limited quantities. It can only be used for a preselected date set in advance. Ranging from $20 to $30, this add-on ticket is a frogtastic, and still affordable, option for those who like to avoid long lines and heavy crowds. Don't froget — you will still need a general admission ticket (or valid annual pass) to enter the park! This addition can be added to a Universal Studios Hollywood ticket purchased through Undercover Tourist. (Don't froget that we can save you some green on your general admission!)

If you get Early Access, plan to arrive 30 to 45 minutes before Early Access starts. We have used Early Access and were able to complete all the challenges, compete in Bowser Jr.'s Shadow Showdown and ride Mario Kart before the park opened. Once the park opens all the lines can get very long.

If you miss your Early Access window (because traffic happens), don't panic. If there is a Virtual Line in place, you can use your Early Access ticket to access the land later in the day without joining a Virtual Line or waiting in a physical line. Just be prepared to show your QR code.

If Early Access is still out of your budget, avoid morning time. Check wait times in the afternoon and especially in the evening for the last hour or two of park opening for the shortest waits.

What can I do with the Early Access ticket?

How To Access Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Hollywood - Early Access Line Up

Utilizing an Early Access ticket is definitely useful if you are determined to explore the land in its entirety during your visit. The ticket allows you access to everything in the land during the early access hour, such as meeting the characters in the land, playing the interactive key games, walking in the Toadstool Cafe without reservations and even experiencing Mario Kart: Bowser's Challenge! (We've got a list of our favorite details in the land here.) There is no limit to how long you can remain in the land after the ticketed hour is over. We recommend getting all of your priority experiences in the land out of the way during the early access hour since the land floods with people once the park officially opens.

If you purchase the Early Access ticket for Super Nintendo World, one big perk is getting one-time Express use for the Studio Tour. (Valid if used before 11:00 a.m.) This is especially useful during the 60th Anniversary of the Studio Tour. The celebration runs April 26 through Aug. 11, 2024, and will increase the standby line for this attraction during that time.

How do I use my Early Access Ticket?

If you purchase an Early Access ticket, enter the park through the main entrance. You'll enter on the left. Don't froget to have both your general admission ticket and Early Access ticket ready! Once you pass the security check at the entrance, line up to the left of the red carpet. You'll show your Early Access and your general admission ticket will be scanned for entry.

Once you are inside the park, an employee will ask you to scan your Early Access ticket (probably at the top of the escalators), then allow you to walk toward the escalators leading to the Lower Lot of the park. From there, you can walk over to the warp pipe to enter the land.

Get a Universal Express Pass

How To Access Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Hollywood - Express Ticket

Both the Universal Express Pass and the Universal Unlimited Express Pass are more expensive, yet more convenient alternatives to general admission tickets. Although purchasing these can bump up your grand total significantly (especially if you're buying passes for the whole frog family), you can reap the benefits of these tickets throughout your entire day at the park. We recommend Universal Express for busy periods. Not so much for less busy times or if it's out of your budget.

What does the Express Pass include?

The Universal Express Pass includes general admission to the park, as well as one-time (per day) front-of-the-line line access to each ride (now including Mario Kart), attraction and show. As a bonus, it also includes one-time (per day) reservation-free entry into Super Nintendo World during your visit (if necessary).

What does the Unlimited Express Pass include?

If you want even more perks, you can upgrade your Express Pass to an Unlimited Express Pass while in the park, which provides unlimited front-of-the-line privileges for all attractions and shows. It also provides one-time (per day) access to Super Nintendo World (if virtual queue is required).

Make a Toadstool Café Reservation

How To Access Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Hollywood - Toadstool Cafe entrance

For those of you looking to enjoy some fine cuisine in the Mushroom Kingdom while in Super Nintendo World, you can secure dining and entry to the land all in one reservation. If a guest has a valid Toadstool Cafe reservation, they can enter the land without a Virtual Line time slot or any special ticket.

You will see signage with QR codes linking to the restaurant's reservation system immediately outside the land's main entrance. You may see another QR code in front of the café. However, you don't have to wait until you're in the park to try and get a spot at the café if it's very important to you. Here's the link to reserve! You don't even have to be inside the park to reserve! Aim to make your reservations by 7:30 a.m. (although the time the reservations open changes each day) for the same day only. The link usually starts working when Early Access starts but it can be earlier or later. The restaurant is usually fully booked shortly after the park opens, on busy days. More times drop about 3 p.m., so definitely keep checking!

It's tricky because we've seen reservations open before 7 a.m. one day and not until 9 a.m. another day. So we recommend getting on the reservations page at 7 a.m. and periodically refreshing until you see it open. We recommend reserving a dining time in the afternoon or evening because mid-morning is the busiest in the land. Go enjoy the short lines elsewhere in the park in the morning. That being said, the later in the day you eat, the more likely it is you will have a line to order, and possibly a long wait for food. The restaurant may even run out of certain items as the day goes on. So if you want to eat mid-morning, go for it! Service is faster in the morning.

Book the VIP Experience

The VIP Experience is the priciest ticket option for Universal guests. Nonetheless, it has grown in popularity amongst Universal guests recently due to the toadally awesome benefits it offers to Super Nintendo World fans. It comes with unlimited access to Super Nintendo Land and Mario Kart: Bowser's Challenge!

What is the VIP Experience?

The VIP Experience consists of an exclusive tour of the theme park and studio backlot, guided by a Universal Studios Hollywood tour guide. Up to 18 guests can participate in a single tour and children must be at least 5 years old to attend (and at least 17 years old to attend without an accompanying adult). The package starts at $369 per ticket, and you can even save some green with us frogs. This may be worthwhile if you want to enjoy the park in an unlimited capacity for your whole stay.

What is included in the VIP Experience?

The ticket includes general 1-day park admission, a VIP gourmet meal, complimentary valet parking, light snacks and refreshments throughout the day and unlimited (per day) Express access to each ride, attraction and show. For those who want complete access to Super Nintendo World, this is exactly the ticket for you. You can enjoy unlimited access to both Super Nintendo World and its attraction, Mario Kart: Bowser's Challenge. It does not let you skip the line for challenges through.

Book the VIP Theme Park Experience (if available)

There is a cheaper alternative to the VIP Experience. This secret tour is something that you may be able to upgrade to at the VIP entrance. You cannot purchase this in advance (only at the front gate). It does not include the trolley backlot tour. But it does include the Studio Tour, lunch at either Krusty Burger or The Three Broomsticks, and Unlimited Express for all attractions, including Mario Kart: Bowser's Challenge. This ticket also provides unlimited access to Super Nintendo World.

The VIP Theme Park Experience ticket is the only package, aside from the VIP Experience, that includes unlimited access to both Super Nintendo World and its attraction, Mario Kart: Bowser's Challenge. Access to this package is limited, so price and availability can vary per day. You should arrive with a valid ticket, regardless. If you are interested, ask if an upgrade is available at the VIP entrance. The day we visited during spring break, it would have cost $110 per person to upgrade our Universal Express ticket to the VIP Theme Park Experience.

Access to Super Nintendo World During Halloween Horror Nights

Halloween Horror Nights is a separately ticketed event that takes place on select nights in September and October. Super Nintendo World is only available to select ticket holders from 7 to 10 p.m. during Halloween Horror Nights events. Super Nintendo World is closed to all other ticket types during the event. Only two tickets grant access to Super Nintendo World:

  • Halloween Horror Nights After 2 p.m. Day/Night - Includes admission to Super Nintendo World only from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. It may be subject to the Virtual Line. (Also includes Early Event Access to select houses at 5:30 p.m.)
  • Halloween Horror Nights After 2 p.m. Day/Night Universal Express - Includes admission to Super Nintendo World only from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. (Also includes Early Event Access to select houses at 5:30 p.m.)

These tickets do not include daytime access to Super Nintendo World. Access is just offered during limited Horror Nights hours.

Frequently Asked Questions About Super Nintendo World

Here are a few of the most frequently asked questions on how to access Super Nintendo World:

How To Access Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Hollywood - AAP return time for Mario Kart

Will I be able to access the land utilizing an Attraction Assistance Pass (AAP)?

No. An Attraction Assistance Pass will not guarantee you entry to the land. You can likely walk right in. You may purchase Early Access OR use the Virtual Line system to enter the land if a Virtual Line is in place. Once inside the land though, the AAP is very hopful. It will allow you to access the Mario Kart: Bowser's Challenge ride. You may be given a return time to come back and experience the ride at a later time during the day. Once you have a return time for the ride, you can leave the land and use the return time to re-enter the land to access the ride.

How To Access Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Hollywood - People in Warp Pipes

Can I return to the warp pipe entrance of the land once I'm inside Super Nintendo World?

This depends on the crowd levels and crew present in the park that day. During our several visits to the land, we have had different experiences with entering and exiting it. Sometimes they let you exit the same way you came in. During crowded times, you must exit through a different route. As of our most recent visit, we were allowed to exit through the main warp pipe entrance (and stop to take photos). However, this is subject to change.

Can I buy my general admission ticket separately from an Early Access ticket?

Yes! Although the Early Access ticket is only available for purchase directly through Universal, you can still buy a discount general admission ticket or a Universal Express ticket from us (and save up to $111)! After you purchase your ticket, take your savings to the Universal Studios site to purchase your Early Access ticket for the day. You'll still have some savings left over for lunch at Toadstool Café!

Tips for Maximizing Your Time in Super Nintendo World

How to Access Super Nintendo World - The view from Single Riders Line

  • Complete all the challenges and games during Early Entry if you can and then ride the ride.
  • Experience the ride, Mario Kart: Bowser's Challenge, immediately when you enter the land at park opening. It is the first thing that becomes crowded, even during the early access hour.
  • We highly suggest the single-rider line if you want to ride again.
  • Use Child Switch if you have a small child too short to ride.
  • If someone in your group has a disability, they can qualify for an Attraction Assistance Pass (AAP). This pass will not grant you access to the land. However, if you enter the land by one of the above methods, you can receive a return time for Mario Kart. Then you may exit the land and return at your designated time for the ride.
  • If you are a major foodie and must try the dishes at Toadstool Cafe, reserve your same-day dining time in advance (even from your home). Use the link we included in this post. This way, you can experience other parts of the park and still return to the land for your reservation with guaranteed dining. Expect a line to order your food when you arrive.
  • If you buy an Early Access ticket, visit the café early with a same-day reservation. The café is usually fully booked for the day by mid-morning. But keep checking as reservations may drop later in the day.
  • Some interactive games take longer than others, therefore creating longer wait times to play. Aim to play the quicker games if you're in a rush, such as those hosted by Thwomp and Goomba. It is evident which key challenges have faster lines than others.
  • Look at the times posted at character meet and greet queues, and hop in line early before the characters come out. They often come out during Early Access as well!

Please note that things are always subject to change, especially access through the Virtual Line, which operates based on demand. What are you most excited about in Super Nintendo World? Let us know in the comments below!

I am planning a trip during Halloween and wanted to go to the park on Halloween day. I wasn’t planning on doing the horror night because my children are young and would probably get scared. Is going to the Super Mario World attraction during the 7-10 time frame okay for younger children or is it also scary? Thank you!

Hi Chan!

On nights when HHN is taking place, the park typically closes early at 6 p.m. for regular daytime guests.

Super helpful.

Question: if we do the early access SNW and use the before 11 studio tour express access but also (if luck) can purchase the VIP park experience at the gate same day can we then use that VIP unlimited express access to ALL rides to go back on the studio tours in the evening/night for different experience?

Hope the question makes since. And thanks again.

Hi RHerm!

Yes, you could use your early entrance for the tour and then the Express to ride again. We recommend sitting on the left one time and on the right the other. That way you’ll get the best of you of everything you pass.

Hi Laura!

Are you referring to the Early Access hour for Super Nintendo World? Exact park hours can vary by date, but generally, no — the Express ticket does not include Early Access, so you would need to purchase Early Access tickets if you wish to enter the land early.

Hi Anto!

The After 2 p.m. Day/Night combo ticket would be the best deal to do things during the day and HHN at night. But if you want more time in the park during the day, then you may need to splurge for a daytime Express ticket and a HHN Express ticket with an Early Access ticket so you can get a jump on the HHN crowds (also note, if you go this route, you would not be able to enter Super Nintendo World during HHN hours).

I'm wondering what leeway is for being late on a Toadstool reservation.

LIKELY EXAMPLE: I have a Toadstool reservation for say 9:30am, but then after getting in line at Bowser ride at maybe 9am I end up 1/2 hour late to my reservation because ride line took too long.

Hi Ranch!

We don't have personal experience with being late to a Toadstool Cafe reservation, but we think that you should try to get in line and explain the situation. Ultimately, it may be up to the team member's discretion. If anyone in the Frog Pond has experienced this, feel free to chime in!

Hi RC!

Mario Kart: Bowser's Challenge has a minimum height requirement of 40 inches so they must meet it in order to ride. In Super Nintendo World specifically, there are games and challenges you can do to collect coins with a Power-Up Band (more info here!). Hi Ale Xander!

Parking opens an hour early, and it is not crowded. Standard parking usually puts you at the farthest lot, which is about a 10-minute walk to the security area. You can pay more for upgraded parking (which is usually the Frankenstein garage), which is closer to the park exit and makes for a quicker escape at the end of the day.

Hello

Do you have any recommendations for dining at Toadstool Cafe? Would you recommend an evening reservation or early morning when the park opens.

I am not expecting spectacular food but would like to take the kids for the experience of the fun food items. My concern with early morning is who wants to eat a burger at 8am ? :( Later afternoon / early evening I wonder if they run out of food items and they wont have as much available?

I was also reading people are being let in without reservations is there any truth to this?

In addition to I have read that even with a reservation some people are still waiting 45+ in line before even getting to order food. Is that accurate?

Any help or recos are appreciated. Thank you

Hi Melissa!

We'd recommend making a reservation as soon as the reservation system opens in the morning (follow this link). There isn't an exact time that it opens, but it's usually between 7 and 8 a.m. (though can be as late as 9 a.m.). They can run out of items as the day goes on, so if you're concerned about that, we would try for early morning. However, even with a reservation, there can be a long wait to order and receive food (we personally have spent about 30 minutes in line to order, 5 minutes to be seated and 20 minutes before the food came out). It might be quicker first thing in the morning, but the wait is fairly consistent throughout the day. The only time we've heard of people getting in without a reservation is sometimes at the end of the night and it's not guaranteed.

Currently, you would need to have at least one Power-Up band to play any of the games. For the Bowser Challenge, you can bring four people in with only one band.

Can you obtain an attraction assistance pass during the early access? I know universal is changing their protocol on the AAP by having you register for an IAC (which we have) but not clear on how this will work on obtaining the pass at the park. I hate for us to walk all the way to Nintendo world and have to walk all the way back to the entrance once the park “opens” to get the AAP. My son needs a pretty “clear” schedule to enjoy the park so this is an anxiety piece for me :)

Yes, we'd recommend arriving 45 minutes early, and you'll be let into the park just before Early Access starts so you don't have to use up too much (if any) Early Access time at Guest Relations.

I would also like any information you have about how best to see Mario World and do the Power Up Challenges. If we are booked for a VIP tour I assume you are taken to the world just to ride Bowser but dont get to spend time in the world so how would we go about doing that and optimizing the time there to be able to allow the kids to do the challenges.

Hi Melissa!

If you purchase Early Access tickets, we think that the extra hour is worth it, especially since the lines for challenges are shorter. We've been able to do all the challenges within 20 minutes during Early Access and then get in line for Mario Kart. If it's sold out or out of budget, then we'd recommend hopping back to Super Nintendo World in the evening after your tour once crowds go down and the sun is less strong. Crowds also tend to die down around lunch as well, but the lines are out directly under the sun.

Hi Melissa!

You would still need to purchase the Early Access ticket if you wish to visit Super Nintendo World during the Early Access hour. But if you don't have the Early Access ticket, you can enter the park when it opens (so you wouldn't have to wait until your tour time). Park guests without Early Access are usually let into the park 15 to 30 minutes early and are held back from attractions — though you'd be one of the first in line once they do open.

A little bit of clarification on the Virtual Line for Super Nintendo Land and The Secret Life of Pets: Off the Leash ride. If you get in the Virtual Line and if gives you a time to be there, is there a separate marked line? For example the Pet ride. Are you just joining in at the end of a standby line that may be an hour+ wait? Thanks.

Hi BZ!

For Secret Life of Pets, you'd just be entering the same traditional queue, and it can still be long, but it varies. As for Super Nintendo World, the virtual queue only gets you into the land when it's at capacity. You would still need to wait in lines for the Power-Up Band games, Mario Kart ride, character greetings and Toadstool Cafe (you'll need a reservation to enter, and if you have one, there can still be a wait).

Hi Min!

The park itself is small, but what takes the most time is going down the series of escalators from the Upper Lot to the Lower Lot since the park is split into two levels on the side of a mountain. This part alone can take 10-15 minutes, depending on the crowds. Add about 5-7 minutes for the time to walk from the gate to the escalators and 2-3 minutes once you're in the Lower Lot.

We missed out on early access passes for Super Nintendo World. We are going in 2 weeks and curious about rope drop. Park opens at 8, we plan to arrive close to 7 and obviously know we can’t go down there that early. But even though it says 8, will they let us go down to the lower lot early? Can we go to Mario world and go on the kart ride or is that closed until 8 unless you have early access? If that is the case, do we do forbidden journey then head to Mario after? I did see today that all the lower lot rides were open before 8, but someone said you can’t even go down there early. Is that true? What is ur best bet to get into the world now?

Hi Leann!

Usually, they will let you into the park and hold you at certain points, but once you get into the Lower Lot, which may or may not be before the park opens, you can go on rides if they're open (the app and park signs will let you know what is open!). However, they won't let you into Super Nintendo World until the park officially opens. If Harry Potter is open, we'd go on Forbidden Journey and then head down to the Lower Lot. If everyone in the party is old enough, we'd recommend the single rider for Mario Kart once Super Nintendo World opens — followed by hitting all of the Lower Lot rides at once. You can try to hit Mario Kart with the full queue if you see the wait time drop off later in the day or night, but the line does stay consistently high throughout the day.

Hi Amy!

You can visit the VIP Tour desk at the entrance of the park, on the far right side after going through the turnstiles, and inquire about it here. You can only book this on-site and there's no guarantee it will be available, so we would set appropriate expectations (but it certainly never hurts to ask!).

Hi Chris!

Yes! We'd recommend arriving 45 minutes early, and you'll be let into the park just before Early Access starts. Head to Guest Relations to the right of the entrance to set up AAP. It's open once you get inside the park. Once in the land, do all of the challenges first (as your AAP will not let you skip the lines for these). Then ride Mario Kart. You can use the AAP to go right to the special queue during Early Access and the first half hour of park opening. After that, you can collect a return time. You can leave the land and come back in when it's time to ride. We suggest riding Mario Kart twice and then hitting the other rides in the Lower Lot once you leave Super Nintendo World.

Hi, I’m going to universal next April and know that’s a busy time in Japan, I’m desperate to see Mario world, but I’m a little overwhelmed with info. To guarantee access on the day, do I need express ticket or early access? Are these the same thing? Do I need to buy both? From what I gather express means pay extra to definitely get in whenever, but early access means pay extra to definitely get in but have to arrive before the park opens, is this correct? I cannot afford to return to Japan after my trip I must make sure I definitely get into Mario land ???? thanks

We're headed to the park next week and our 2 priorities are seeing Super Mario World (and riding Bowser's Challenge) and getting to all the things in the Harry Potter area also. We bought the express tickets. How should we plan our day? Is it best to start with Super Mario (which I'm assuming most others will be doing also), or should we hit Harry Potter first for potentially shorter lines first thing in the morning and then move to Super Mario after that? Thanks!

Hi Tami!

These are frogtastic questions! If you want to see Super Nintendo World at its emptiest, it would be wise to purchase Early Access tickets and get into the land an hour before the rest of the park opens. If not, enter the land as soon as the park opens and get in line for Mario Kart: Bowser's Challenge, as this ride typically has the longest wait. After exiting Super Nintendo World, use your Express Passes to ride all of the attractions in the Lower Lot. Then, you can head to the Upper Lot and explore the Wizarding World. Having Express will increase the chances that you can enjoy the rides found in the Wizarding World without too long of a wait. Hope this helps!

Hello Alicia!

That’s a great question! Children two years old or younger are allowed to enter Universal Studios Hollywood for free and do not need an Early Access ticket, while children ages three and up will need a valid, general admission ticket to enter the park. Kids three years of age or older will also need an Early Access ticket in order to enter Super Nintendo World an hour before it opens.

Hi Michael!

It depends on the Virtual Line being in use. Our best advice is getting there early, even before the gates open. If the Virtual Line isn't in use, you can walk straight into the land. But if it is in use, then you'll need to make a Virtual Line reservation. You can check if it's in use through the Universal Studios Hollywood app, which we'd recommend, as opposed to walking all the way down to the Lower Lot where there are kiosks to make Virtual Line reservations.

Hi Damaris!

You can only purchase Early Access tickets through Universal Studios Hollywood's website, and currently, tickets for the remainder of the year are available. If you want to hold off for now, then we'd recommend purchasing no later than about 3-4 weeks in advance. You can keep an eye out on sold out dates as it gets closer to November (for a rough idea: currently, as of writing, tickets are sold out through June 16 - about three weeks in advance). Thanksgiving Week is typically the busiest, but early to mid-November sees moderate crowds, especially midweek.

Hi SJ!

Mario Kart: Bowser's Challenge should open when Early Access starts. We'd recommend immediately hopping in line for the ride first! But if you arrive and the line happens to be long already, we'd start with the key challenges while those lines are still short, grab a Toadstool Cafe reservation and then hop in line for Mario Kart before the Early Access period is over so you're still ahead of anyone entering the land once the park officially opens.

If the virtual line for Super Nintendo World is not in use, then you can enter Super Nintendo World at any time! The virtual queue may open or close at any time, usually depending on demand and crowd levels.

We plan on going Tuesday 5/1/23 but early access passes are sold out. Is it a possibility that the 3 of us don’t get into Mario World? I’m hearing from a friend that’s it’s a possibility that you could wait all day and not get in. If that’s the case I’d rather go on a later date.

Hi Allan!

Because Super Nintendo World is brand-new and in demand, it can be hard to guarantee access depending on which ticket/experience you choose. The Early Access ticket would be the cheapest add-on to ensure access. You could also opt for the Express ticket or the V.I.P. Experience, both of which would grant guaranteed access. If you go with a standard park ticket, then you might need to join a Virtual Line, if it's in use. Sometimes, if you arrive early enough, it's possible they may not utilize the Virtual Line right away so you could simply enter the land. But it's also possible they could open the Virtual Line before you arrive and spots tend to fill quickly. You may also enter the land if you have a Toadstool Cafe reservation — which can only be made same-day, though you can make them online at this link — we've personally noticed that availability tends to open up around 7:30 a.m. (it's not the exact time every day, so you would need to check frequently if it does not show up right away when you check).

Hi HM!

You have to be on property in order to join, and it has to be operating. Sometimes they do not open the virtual line right away and you can just walk in. You can make a reservation for Toadstool Cafe, starting at around 7:30 a.m. the day of, through this link. The reservation would get you into the land.

Hi Edgar!

If you purchase Express, you do not need to get the Early Access ticket or make a virtual line reservation to visit the land (if in use). The Express pass will grant you one-time access to Super Nintendo World — though it does not include expedited access to the ride, Mario Kart: Bowser's Challenge, or guarantee a reservation for Toadstool Cafe. For that reason, we'd still recommend arriving as early as you can because you can only make a reservation to Toadstool Cafe on the day of and reservations fill very quickly for the entire day.

Hi Jojo!

We think the kiosks are more convenient because there are multiple kiosks, they're already located inside the land and you can digitally pick out the number of bands you want and it will dispense them all on the spot. The shops are usually more crowded and you have to physically grab all the bands you want before getting in line. Ultimately, it depends on crowd levels, but we've noticed that the kiosks usually don't have super long lines.

It really varies per day. We recently paid $145 per person to upgrade to Express from Universal annual passes, so with the addition of $110, it would be roughly $255 per person to upgrade to V.I.P. after adding Express to our passes — though again, it truly depends on the day and time of year you're visiting.
