Tap, Customize and Enjoy! How to Use Disneyland Mobile Order Service

by Mommy Frog on February 15, 2024 6 Los Angeles

Inside This Post Inside This Post

As soon as we enter the parks, our frog bellies start rumbling for some delicious Disneyland food! Mobile ordering can help us avoid waiting in long food lines throughout the day. The Disneyland Mobile Order service eliminates the wait time for freshly prepared food and allows you to plan meals ahead of time. Of course, you may want to plan those meals even further ahead than normal, as some popular locations do get very busy. If you wait until you are hungry, you may not find a time slot that suits your desires. Did you know that the viral, warm Harbour Galley chocolate chip cookies are available via Mobile Order? Yum! Let's hop into all of the details of this handy service!

Tap, Customize and Enjoy! How to Use Disneyland Mobile Order Service

Overview of Disneyland's Mobile Order Service

The Disneyland mobile app allows guests to order food and dessert from select Disneyland restaurants and food stands (including some locations in Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge and Avengers Campus!). You can choose to order food right away or choose a pick-up time later in the day if you want to plan ahead. Actually, that's a very smart plan. We recommend you order your meals an hour ahead of time. You may want to order lunch at the new Café Daisy in Mickey's Toontown in advance. We also recommend ordering ahead at the popular Jolly Holiday Bakery Café. That way, as soon as you are feeling rumbly in the tummy, you don't find out that the next available arrival window is a couple of hours away. Sometimes arrival windows can seem far away if you do not plan ahead.

Mobile Ordering allows park guests to avoid long lines and reduces contact points and currency exchange with cast members. You only really need to tap a button on your phone and then collect the food when you receive a notification that it's ready.

How to Use Disneyland Mobile Order Service - Morning Ronto WrapMobile Order is also hopful if different members of the party want food from different restaurants. You can place separate orders, pick up the food and meet up to eat together. If you have picky eaters in your party, you might want to hop over to our post on the top kids' foods at Disneyland. Mobile ordering will keep them happy and save you time. It also helps save time in the morning. We mobile order breakfast and eat on the go without missing a beat!

Over time, a few new restaurants have joined the Mobile Order list. Others have gone back to standby ordering at the counter, and some offer both. You can find the most updated list of Mobile Order options when you go to the Mobile Order tab in the Disneyland app.

How to Use Disneyland Mobile Order Service - New mobile order screenMobile Order recently got a fresh new look and is even easier to use. You can select buttons to order ASAP or schedule a later pick-up. Filter your search for restaurants available at the moment or by location if you have hungry mouths to feed now. There are tabs for each park, hotel and Downtown Disney. You can enjoy expanded Mobile Ordering payment options, such as Disney gift cards. That is hoppin' good news if you do not want to pay with credit cards!

With the Mobile Order service, you skip the line to place your order for meals at select restaurants inside Disneyland Park, Disney California Adventure Park, the Downtown Disney district (at Marceline's Confectionery), the Disneyland Hotel and Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa. You can conveniently place your order from anywhere inside or outside of the parks, even if you have not entered the park for the day. In fact, you can even order before the parks open (note that the available arrival windows may vary by location and time) starting at 7 a.m.!

It's super easy to plan lunch or dinner while waiting in line for a ride, or from your hotel room before you head to the park. You could even order food through the app while standing in the restaurant and bypass other guests still waiting to order. Yes, we have done it multiple times, and we are hoppy to have food in our hands before other frogs in line have even placed their order.

How to Use Disneyland Mobile Order Service - toontown food

We’ve all been hungry at Disneyland. But if we aren't willing to wait in a long food line, we often choose something quicker and maybe not as healthy from a cart (say a Mickey pretzel, churro or popcorn) because we are busy hopping to the next ride or show. Sometimes one member of your group may be hungry for a meal but the rest of the group wants to eat somewhere else or trek on rather than wait in line. Now you can order food and grab it in mere seconds instead of enduring a 15 to 20-minute wait — meaning you can get what you want when you want it. The restaurant prepares your meal once you have indicated that you are there and ready for it, so it’s not drying out under a heat lamp. It’s fresh and prepared right when you arrive!

Keep in mind that on more crowded days, the Mobile Order service may also have a longer wait time.

To take advantage of Mobile Order, you need to download the Disneyland mobile app and set up an account. We recommend doing this before your trip, so you can access your tickets and manage park reservations from your phone.

If you already have the Disneyland app, update to the latest version to activate the Disneyland Mobile Order function and perhaps Touch ID or Face ID for the app, which can save you the hassle of constantly typing in passwords to make a purchase. If you have not used the Disneyland app yet, link your park ticket and Magic Key Pass to the app. If you want to pay with a gift card, you'll add it before each purchase.

To order food through Disneyland Mobile Order service:

  • Open the app and click the + symbol at the bottom of the main menu.
  • Select the filters if you want to (Available now, Nearby or Schedule for Later)
  • Select a park (or hotel) restaurant and a 30-minute arrival window. Just the first window is shown, but you can tap the restaurant to display additional windows if ordering further out.
  • Make your food selections. If the Add button won’t click, you may have choices to select first such as apple slices or fries and perhaps a dipping sauce.
  • Click View My Order. Select Review Order Summary or Add More Items.
  • When payingyou may choose to Check out with Apple Pay (if set up) or Use a Different Payment Method. Select Add a card to add a Disney Gift Card/Dining Card or a Disney Rewards Redemption Card (if that is your preferred payment), or simply use the credit card on file. You can apply up to five gift cards and two rewards cards in combination with a credit or debit card.
  • If you have Apple Pay set up on your phone, the app will default to Apple Pay. But you can tap to pay with another method, such as a credit card stored in the app.
  • To add a gift card, type in the 16-digit card number (or scan the barcode) and hit Save.
  • Scroll to the bottom and select Purchase.
  • When you arrive at the Mobile Order pick-up area, tap I’m Here, Prepare My Order. Once you tap that, your order is final and nonrefundable.
  • You can view your current orders by tapping the three horizontal lines at the bottom of the screen and then the Rides, Shows & Lightning Lane Entry box, followed by My Day.
  • We always screenshot our Mobile Order number because it makes it easier if the app decides to stop working the second a cast member asks for our number. It happens!

How to Use Disneyland Mobile Order Service - Boy eats chicken tendersIf you do not tap I’m Here, Prepare My Order before the park closes and do not pick up your food or cancel, you will get charged when your window closes. If you cannot make it for pickup, you can modify the arrival time for submitted orders or cancel them. Your phone will keep you updated on the status of your order via the app and will notify you when it is ready. At really busy times, waits can be longer. If you miss your window (or are running late) and get charged, take your order number to the pick-up and they may be able to still make your food for you.

We once had an issue in which our food was not ready an hour after we tapped "I'm here ..." due to a problem with the restaurant hours during an After Dark party. We were able to get a refund through Disney chat in the app. They needed our ticket numbers, mobile order number and the times we booked and wanted to pick up.

The app was recently updated to make Mobile Order even more user-friendly. The selections include larger photos of the foods, and the buttons at the top of the restaurant page allow you to jump straight to categories such as Seasonal Offerings, Entrees, Salads, Sides, Kids’ Meals, Toddler Meals, Allergy-Friendly, House Specialties, Plant-Based, Desserts, Sweets, Beverages, Espresso Beverages and Alcoholic Beverages. The selections are custom to each restaurant and will vary. You can also scroll down to get to each of the items in these categories.

Disneyland Restaurants That Offer Mobile Order

Disneyland’s Mobile Order service continues to expand and change all the time. You can order food at most quick-service restaurants in both parks and some locations in the hotels. The restaurant selection may change as they continue adding more restaurants to the service and even taking some away. Your days of standing in line for a pineapple Dole Whip are over (depending on where you purchase it). Hooray!

How to Use Disneyland Mobile Order Service - Food Allergies ScreenshotNavigating Mobile Orders with Food Allergies

If you have food allergies, you can find choices that work for some of the more common allergies such as soy, gluten/wheat, eggs, fish/shellfish, milk or peanut/tree nuts on the Mobile Order menu. When looking over the menu for a restaurant, there is a new Allergy-Friendly button to take you right to a list of allergies. Click the button and select your allergy to get to a list of safe or modified dishes you might not have known about. For example, you can order gluten-free or dairy-free pizza at Alien Pizza Planet. If you have multiple allergies or other special dietary concerns, it’s best to order in person or talk to the chef. Some items can easily be modified to remove allergens, but those will not show up in the allergy menus, so definitely order in person in those cases.

How to Use Disneyland Mobile Order Service - Plant-Based Options ScreenshotSome restaurants have plant-based options made from vegetables, fruits, grains, nuts, seeds and legumes. Look for a leaf icon at the top of your screen, which is a shortcut to take you to items that do not contain animal meat, dairy, eggs or honey. Expect to see more of these menu choices appearing soon!

The Limitations of Disneyland Mobile Order Service

Mobile Order is not for everyone. You won’t find many Disneyland secret menu items on the app because they are … well … secret. You’ll have to ask for those in person. On the other hand, we have found several items available on Mobile Order that are not on the printed menus! But not everything is on the Mobile Order menu. For example, you're only able to order alcoholic beverages at Tangaroa Terrace in person.

You might miss out on some menu items with Mobile Order. We have not seen all of the seasonal treats or morning items available for breakfast on the Jolly Holiday Bakery Café menu, so we have had to hop in to order our food (when we wanted these special treats). You might miss out on some special seasonal or festival offerings because they may not always appear as menu choices, especially if supplies are limited. So if you want a Mickey gingerbread from Jolly Holiday Bakery Café at Holiday Time and don't see it on mobile order, check in person. Although, we have ordered many festival treats and seasonal items (such as glow cubes) through the Mobile Order service.

How to Use Disneyland Mobile Order Service - Customizing Your Meal ScreenshotYou can add basic items such as sides and popular toppings (perhaps bacon on your burger or sprinkles on ice cream). And you can make choices for sides when offered. However, you may not see all of the options listed in the app.

You may be able to customize your selection by saying "no, thanks" to some of the ingredients, but maybe not all. If you're a very particular frog who wants a lot of substitutions and likes to fine-tune your meals, then it's probably best to wait in line. For example, if you want to substitute a veggie patty for meat, you may need to order in person.

If you are a more spontaneous family and eat when something strikes your fancy, then you might refrain from ordering too far in advance. You can, however, cancel orders if you hop across something that sounds more appetizing, so don’t be afraid to use this service. You will love this service if you have a strong sense of what, where and when you want to eat. Come parade time, it's so much easier to have a meal planned out near your viewing space. One party member can make a food run while another watches the viewing spot.

Using your phone for ordering and collecting food will put more strain on your phone battery throughout the day. We always use phone cases that include extra battery life or external chargers. We recommend you do too! If you don’t have any mobile chargers, you can purchase an external portable charger in the park.

How to Use Disneyland Mobile Order Service - Mobile Order Pick Up Sign

If you prefer to use cash, the Disneyland Mobile Order service may not be for you since payment goes straight to a credit card. You can use cash to purchase a Disney gift card and use that to pay when mobile ordering. You have to add the card each time you want to use a gift card, but if you copy and save it to your phone, you can paste it into the app to save time. It can also be harder to stay on budget when you have such easy access to your favorite Disneyland food and treats with the click of a button! When you aren’t opening your wallet, it can be harder to keep track of how much you spend, so be sure to stick to your budget.

On the other hand, not having to pull out money all the time can make your journey more enjoyable. I recently frogot to bring my credit card into the park. When dinnertime came, we just used the app to order food and did not have to go hungry.

Other family members or friends who have your username or password can also place food orders through the app. That can be a good thing if members of the group split off and get hungry but don’t have money. But beware: You don’t have much control over how much they spend and you may get stuck footing the bill. That’s why we recommend that all families who will be using Genie+ to book rides together also create their own usernames and passwords in the Disneyland app and add their own credit cards. Do this even if one person is managing a large group for Lightning Lane reservations. Here’s a look at the bright side, and more benefits of this feature!

The Benefits of Disneyland Mobile Order Service

How to Use Disneyland Mobile Order Service - Girl Eats Mickey Pancake

The obvious benefit of using this service is saving time. While we frogs are not always interested in downloading more apps, we make an exception for the Disneyland app. It saves so much time compared to waiting in food lines (not to mention saving us many ride lines with Genie+). That means we can spend more time playing as a family, seeing shows or enjoying rides instead of standing in food (or ride) lines. It is also hopful to use the app to see which restaurants offer the service in your area, should hunger suddenly strike while you are waiting for a ride. You can order while you wait and pick up your food after your ride. We love the efficiency and instant gratification that comes with ordering before we arrive.

Mobile Order also makes it a lot easier for family members with different tastes to eat where they want. Some group members may prefer one restaurant, while others may want something else. Disneyland Mobile Order service allows you to place separate orders for items from different restaurants. Then you can pick them up quickly without waiting in two or three separate, long lines. You can collect food from one restaurant on the way to another. No whining from the tadpoles or compromising from me and Leap. It's a win-win!

How to Use Disneyland Mobile Order Service - Grilled cheese and tomato soup from Jolly Holiday

Applicable discounts, such as linked Magic Key discounts, are automatically taken off the bill when you use this service. When using Mobile Order, the meal is billed straight to your credit card. You simply arrive at the marked Mobile Order pick-up area, tap a button and collect your food. It’s that easy! You can send your family members to pick up their food without any money, although they should bring a phone or have the order number because cast members will ask for it.

If you are looking for healthier food choices in the parks, using Mobile Order can help you plan ahead. Ordering in advance prevents impulse food purchases. Also, when you can pick up a salad, sandwich, Mickey Check Meal or Power Pack for the tadpoles a lot faster than a churro, it makes it easier to choose foods that will give everyone the energy to make it through a long day in the parks. Here are some guidelines for healthy eating at Disneyland in case you need some inspiration! Healthy food choices definitely seem to cut down on meltdowns. Don’t worry if you are looking for quick treats: You can get ice cream, Dole whips, chips and desserts pretty quickly through the Disneyland Mobile Order service, too!

So that’s the scoop on the Disneyland Mobile Order service. Find out more about the best Disneyland Park quick-service restaurants and the best Disney California Adventure Park quick-service restaurants before your visit to help speed up your dining decisions once you are in the parks. Hi, love your blog. It's been extremely helpful in planning our upcoming trip! One question: For carts that do NOT use the Mobile App (such as Senor Buzz Churros in CA Adventure), how do you pay them? Can you use a credit card? Or is there something on the Disney App where you can tap to pay using the card on file? Thanks!

Preparing for our visit next week and I can't find answers to these 2 questions anywhere:

1) How soon in the morning can I start placing orders for mobile order food?

2) How do I find a list of quick service restaurants that also allow walk up orders? I.e. those that offer mobile service, in case we need food but didn't place a mobile order in time.

Hi Teresa,

To answer your first question, it can vary, but most locations are open for Mobile Ordering by 8 a.m. You can check your phone each morning before you go to the park to see what is available. However, Pym Test Kitchen and Pym Tasting Lab do not appear as available until Avengers Campus officially opens, and the times are released on a rolling basis throughout the day.

The status for restaurants offering Mobile Order only can change on a daily basis, as even restaurants that allow walk-up orders can pause the line and defer to Mobile Order. We'd suggest looking for open registers. Some places, like Plaza Inn, have both. We book our Mobile Orders in the morning when possible, knowing we can change or cancel them, but that we'd have options if we're hungry and can be in the area when our window approaches. You can get snacks in person at Ship to Store Marketplace. (And be sure to order ice cream from Gibson Girl before the end of the night, as we learned the hard way that all windows can be unavailable later at night when we wanted it.) Hope this helps!

Hoppy planning!
