Kansas City Royals Team Overview
The Kansas City Royals are a professional Major League Baseball (MLB) team that plays home games at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri. The name "Royals" pays homage to the American Royal — a livestock show, horse show, rodeo and barbecue competition, which has been a Kansas City tradition since 1899. Founded as a 1969 MLB expansion franchise, the Royals currently compete in the American League (AL) Central division against the Minnesota Twins, Detroit Tigers, Chicago White Sox and Cleveland Guardians.
The Royals have made four World Series appearances, winning in 1985 and 2015, and have made several other postseason runs. Notable players include MLB Hall of Famer George Brett and Royals Hall of Famer Frank White, who both served as team captains in the early 1990s. Known as one of the best catchers of the modern era, Salvador Perez has played for the Royals since the beginning of his career. Over time, he's been an eight-time All-Star, a five-time Gold Glove winner, a four-time Silver Slugger winner and now serves as the fourth team captain in Royals history.
