Overview of the Memphis Grizzlies
The Memphis Grizzlies are the only major professional team based in Memphis, TN (and the only professional basketball team in Tennessee altogether). The Grizzlies compete in the Southwest Division of the NBA's Western Conference.
The team started out in Vancouver before relocating to Memphis for the 2001-02 season. The Memphis Grizzlies have intense rivalries with the LA Clippers, San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder.
In the 2019 draft, Ja Morant joined the team and was awarded Rookie of the Year for the 2019-2020 season. The team went to the playoffs the next year. Unfortunately, Morant has met some suspensions, followed by a shoulder surgery, that cut his 2023-24 season short. With six players dealing with injuries, the team took a proactive approach in January 2024 by signing several players with 10-day contracts.
