Overview of the Minnesota Wild
Despite being founded in 1997 when the NHL expanded from 26 to 30 teams, the Minnesota Wild didn't begin playing until the 2000-01 season. Getting off to a strong start, they won their first game 9-1 to the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim and subsequently recorded their second win against the Tampa Bay Lightning the very next game. Just two years later, they made their very first Stanley Cup playoffs appearance, making a surprising run to the Western Conference Finals.
2022 was a standout year for the Wild, with the team setting franchise highs in points (113) and wins (53). Left winger and alternate captain Kirill Kaprizov even individually set franchise records in points (108), goals (47) and assists (61). Despite those impressive stats, the Dallas Stars eliminated them from the playoff series in six games. However, as the Central Division is a tad weaker than others, the Wild have a very strong chance of making the playoffs again this year — something they've done in four straight seasons and 10 of the past 11.
