2023-2024 NBA Schedule — Highlights
If you’re looking for a preseason like no other, get ready. This year’s preseason kicks off Oct. 5, 2023, with two matches between the Dallas Mavericks and Minnesota Timberwolves in Abu Dhabi.
The preseason includes international games in Spain, Abu Dhabi, the Philippines, Japan, Indonesia, Germany and Canada through Oct. 20, 2023. In Vancouver, Canada, the Toronto Raptors face the Sacramento Kings on Oct. 8, 2023. On Oct. 12, 2023, Vancouver will also host the Oklahoma City Thunder versus Detroit Pistons match.
The official NBA 2023-2024 season — beginning Oct. 24, 2023 — is sure to be a slam dunk! The schedule starts off with a heated game between the Denver Nuggets and Los Angeles Lakers, taking place Oct. 24. The Nuggets, the current reigning champs, will welcome the Lakers in a replay of the 2022-23 Western Conference Finals. There are also a few exciting changes to look forward to this time around. New for the 2023-24 season, an in-game flopping penalty and expanded use of the Coach's Challenge will be added to the league.
For the first time, in-season tournaments will become a part of the regular season. During these new in-season tournaments, all 30 teams are randomly assigned into groups of five within their conference based on won-loss records from the prior regular season. Beginning Nov. 3, each team will play four group play games on tournament nights — one game against each opponent in its group, with two games at home and two on the road. In the end, the top six teams in each conference qualify for the postseason. The inaugural in-season tournament will take place in Mexico City, where the Atlanta Hawks will go head-to-head against Orlando Magic. In Las Vegas, the In-Season Tournament Semi-Finals will take place Dec. 7, 2023, with Finals happening Dec. 9, 2023.
This year, the NBA has set up five sensational matchups for its 2023-24 Christmas Day schedule. To kick off the holiday, the New York Knicks will play the Milwaukee Bucks (12 p.m. ET), followed by a match between the Denver Nuggets and Golden State Warriors (2:30 p.m. ET). Shortly after, the Los Angeles Lakers host the Boston Celtics (5 p.m. ET), and the Philadelphia 76ers will face Miami Heat (8 p.m. ET). Finally, the Phoenix Suns will battle it out with the Dallas Mavericks (10:30 p.m. ET).
Jan. 11, 2024, the NBA Paris Game will feature the Brooklyn Nets and Cleveland Cavaliers in the City of Light.
Marking the midway point of the regular season, the Indiana Pacers will host the 2024 NBA All-Star Game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis Feb. 16-18, 2024. It will be the first time this special event has taken place in Indianapolis since 1985.
While the official season will end April 14, 2024, the playoffs for the NBA Finals will commence shortly thereafter.
