This year’s preseason began Oct. 4, 2024, with two matches between the Boston Celtics and Denver Nuggets in Abu Dhabi.
The official NBA 2024-2025 season — beginning Oct. 22, 2024 — is sure to be a slam dunk! The schedule starts off with heated games between the Celtics and New York Knicks as well as the Minnesota Timberwolves and Los Angeles Lakers.
The Emirates NBA Cup, which is the regular in-season tournament that will be returning for its second year, will begin Nov. 12. During this tournament, all 30 teams are randomly assigned into groups of five within their conference based on won-loss records from the prior regular season. Each team will play four group play games on tournament nights — one game against each opponent in its group, with two games at home and two on the road. The semi-finals of the tournament will take place Dec. 14 and the championship Dec. 17 in Las Vegas.
Just like last year, the NBA will feature five games on Christmas Day. To kick off the holiday, the San Antonio Spurs will play the New York Knicks (12 p.m. ET), followed by a match between the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Dallas Mavericks (2:30 p.m. ET). Shortly after, the Boston Celtics host the Philadelphia 76ers (5 p.m. ET), and the Golden State Warriors will host the Los Angeles Lakers (8 p.m. ET). Finally, the Phoenix Suns will battle it out with the Denver Nuggets (10:30 p.m. ET).
A rematch of last year's NBA finals will take place Jan. 25 at 5:30 p.m. ET, where the Dallas Mavericks will host the reigning champs, the Boston Celtics.
The NBA All-Star Game will take place Feb. 16 in San Francisco at the Chase Center, which is home to the Golden State Warriors.
The official season will end April 13, 2025, followed by the NBA Playoffs.
