2024-2025 NHL Schedule — Overview
The 2024-2025 NHL season is just around the corner and fans of hockey are already eagerly awaiting the action to start. Over the course of 21 weeks, all 32 league teams will battle it out to win the coveted Stanley Cup! The season will begin Oct. 4 in Europe as the Buffalo Sabres will take on the New Jersey Devils in the 2024 NHL Global Series. On Oct. 8, a triple-header will start the season in North America with the Florida Panthers raising their first Stanley Cup championship banner before they take on the Boston Bruins at Amerant Bank Arena at 7 p.m. ET. The league's regular season is divided into two conferences — the Eastern Conference and the Western Conference — with each conference containing two divisions: the Atlantic Division and Metropolitan Division in the East and Central Division and Pacific Division in the West.
Every team in each division will play 82 matches throughout the season — 26 games against teams in their division, 24 against teams in the other division of their conference and 32 games against teams in the opposing conference. In addition to regular games, fans can also look forward to some exciting seasonal games and events throughout the season, the NHL Global Series and the Discover NHL Winter Classic.
2024-2025 NHL Schedule — Highlights
With so much excitement surrounding the end of last year's season with the Florida Panthers winning their first Stanley Cup and the Edmonton Oilers making it to the finals for the first time since 2006, this season is sure to bring plenty of surprises.
The NHL Global Series is sure to bring some fun this season with two different games being played around Europe. As previously mentioned, the season begins with the NHL Global Series on Oct. 4 in Prague. On Friday, Nov. 1 and Saturday, Nov. 2, the Panthers will face the Dallas Stars in Tampere, Finland to round out the series.
The Discover NHL Winter Classic will be a fun way to end the year for all hockey fans as it's played on Dec. 31 at Wrigley Field in Chicago. The game will feature the St. Louis Blues versus the Chicago Blackhawks. The NHL Winter Classic started in 2008 and has become a great way for hockey fans to ring in the new year with a game outdoors.
The Panthers and Oilers will have a rematch of the Stanley Cup Finals from last year on Dec. 16 when the Oilers host the Panthers and on Feb. 27 when the game is played in South Florida.
Another exciting series that the NHL has developed is the Navy Federal Credit Union NHL Stadium Series. In 2025, this series will be played in Columbus, Ohio, at Ohio Stadium, home of the Ohio State Buckeyes, where the Columbus Blue Jackets will face the Detroit Red Wings.
