Pittsburgh Pirates Team Overview
The Pittsburgh Pirates have quite an impressive history. They've won five World Series championships, nine National League pennants, nine National League East division titles and three Wild Card berths. At the start of the 20th century, they were among the best teams in baseball — playing in the inaugural World Series in 1903 and winning their first title in 1909. In 1960, they took part in arguably the most famous World Series ending, winning against the New York Yankees on a walk-off home run — the only time Game 7 of the World Series has ended with a home run.
The success of the Pirates' 2024 season lies on the shoulders of their young players. Shortstop Oneil Cruz — a former Top 15 prospect — will be returning this season after recovering from a fractured fibula and can start to put things together in a big way. Additionally, Bryan Reynolds and Ke'Bryan Hayes complete a solid young core of hitters at the top of the lineup. They also have a reliable veteran core around them with Andrew McCutchen back for another year after a successful return in 2023 and All-Star pitcher Mitch Keller who has shown flashes of excellence and was above average last year.
