Tips for Planning a Magical Honeymoon at Disney World!

by Mommy Frog on April 5, 2023 13 Orlando

You've found your own "happily ever after" and now you're planning your honeymoon at Disney World. How magical! Walt Disney World is one of the top honeymoon destinations in the world. With thrilling attractions and experiences, top-notch food and plenty of fun for all, it's a wonderful place for you and your sweetheart.

A Disney World honeymoon creates so many magical memories and is a great way to experience the theme parks together in a different way or even for the first time!

Here are some helpful tips if you're planning to spend your honeymoon at "The Most Magical Place on Earth."

Planning a Honeymoon at Disney World

Most of the planning for a Disney World honeymoon will be the same as planning for a regular trip. You'll want to decide how much you'll want to budget for your trip and how much "splurging" you want to do in honor of the occasion. There are plenty of romantic things to do all year round at Disney World!

Did you know there's even Disney’s Honeymoon Registry to give your guests possible gift ideas? Your friends and family can give you everything from dinner at the Hoop Dee Doo Musical Revue to a shopping spree at Disney Springs!

1. Plan out your trip dates and book your tickets

First, you'll want to decide how many days you'll be in the parks and how many "rest" days you'll want. Though you may have limited choices on when you visit depending on your wedding date, you'll want to consider the best times to visit Disney World. You can purchase base tickets, which include one park per day, or park hoppers, which allows you to visit multiple parks in one day (hopping is allowed after 2 p.m.). Be sure to purchase discount tickets from Undercover Tourist so you can enjoy magical savings (and use the extra money for some of our other tips!).

2. Stay at a Moderate or Deluxe Hotel

Disney's Grand Floridian Resort and Spa – Lobby entrance

Staying on-site for a Disney honeymoon is a must in our book! There are so many benefits to staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel and it is a perfect way to be fully immersed in the magic. We would recommend at least a Moderate Resort or even splurge for a Deluxe Resort. Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa would be our top pick for a honeymoon due to its elegant theming and high-class amenities (plus the Disney Wedding Pavilion is right there for inspiration!). No matter what Disney hotel you stay at, you can order specialty gifts and floral displays to be delivered right to your room!

3. Celebrate with special merchandise

Make sure to pick up your toadally free “Happily Ever After” celebration buttons at any merchandise shop. You’ll often get lots of "congratulations" from Cast Members the whole week. While you’re at it, go ahead and buy those Bride & Groom Mickey Ears. Think about it, when are you ever going to get to do that again!

Remember, don't necessarily expect special treatment just for wearing your honeymoon accessories, but to enjoy the celebration. That way, you can be pleasantly surprised if you're randomly "pixie dusted" something!

Of course, you'll want to budget for some other Disney souvenirs to bring back home with you!

4. Slurge on specialty dining

Consider booking advanced dining reservations to enjoy some sit-down meals during your honeymoon at Disney World. There are wonderful table-service restaurants at the theme parks, hotels and Disney Springs. For a royal atmosphere, consider Be Our Guest restaurant at Magic Kingdom or even a character dining meal. When you make your reservations (hotel and dining), sometimes it will ask if you are celebrating anything. You never know if any extra magic may occur!

Of course, you'll have to partake in some classic Disney snacks like churros, Mickey ice cream sandwiches and Dole Whips! Plus, eat and drink your way around the world with the many EPCOT festivals.

5. Purchase Photo Packages

Don't froget to take lots of photos to remember this incredible trip! Disney PhotoPass photographers are stationed throughout the parks for some magical backgrounds. You'll definitely want to purchase Memory Maker, which allows for unlimited photo downloads from your entire trip.

Disney PhotoPass — Capture Your Moment

Disney World also has a private photoshoot option called Capture Your Moment. For 20 minutes, you'll have your own personal PhotoPass photographer! Each session is $50 and is available at each park. Plus there are even honeymoon props available to pose with! Downloads of your photos are included in Memory Maker or photos can be purchased a la carte. To book a Capture Your Moment session, call 407-939-7758 or book online.

6. Reserve some Enchanted Extras

Disney World Average Cost - Horse Carriage

Your honeymoon is the perfect time to add in those extra splurges, like building your own lightsaber or riding in a horse-drawn carriage. This is a once-in-a-lifetime trip! Here are some suggestions to add to your trip (note that many of these require advanced reservations):

7. Choose how you want to spend your time.

With just the two of you, you can decide what kind of Disney honeymoon you'd like to have. Do you both like to take your time and follow a loose schedule? Are you both thrill ride junkies who will want to hop from park opening to park close? Or would it be just fine if you slept in and laid by the pool the whole time? There's no wrong answer, but one thing's for sure, you're Disney World honeymoon is sure to be magical!

I am planning a surprise wedding gift of Disney honeymoon for my son and future daughter -in -law. I did the same for my middle son about 16 years ago. Can you send me info, prices and suggestions. No date yet but thinking it will be close to their favorite holiday of Halloween.

Hi Bonnie!

How sweet of you! Check out our Crowd Calendar for the least busy days to visit ... and we definitely recommend treating them to tickets for Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party. They'll love it!

Hoppy planning!

Hi Jeanne,

We plan to have more information about this in the future. In the meantime, you can reach out to Disney directly for the specifics.

Here is what to expect out of a Disney honeymoon....nothing. No special treatment. No freebies like all the blog suggest. No "ooohh and ahhh and sparkles". I just got back from my Disney "honeymoon" and it was an epic disaster to the point where I may NEVER go back to WDW again. Do yourself a favour and spend the 4-8 grand somewhere else.

We had nothing but congratulations. We didn't have to pay to park half the time, we were allowed to g again on some rides, we had free cupcakes, drinks, extra fastpasses, front of ride seating most of the time, special wishes from characters, and we weren't staying on site. We found the whole fortnight to be magical (especially when contrasted with the miserable lot at Universal where we got absolutely nothing). Expect nothing at Disney and anything will be a delightful bonus (and we had plenty. A honeymoon to remember).
