Planning for Disney World in June

by Leap on August 1, 2014

Most of us equate June with the start of summer fun — and it definitely will be if you are headed to the Orlando theme parks! Think of Disney World in June as your unofficial start to summer fun. The parks extend their opening hours to take advantage of the longer days, and June (and May) is often the month when parks roll out new attractions and special events to lure the summer vacationers.

Crowds at Disney World in June

Because some tadpoles -- and children -- still have school through the first couple of weeks of summer, those days are slightly less crowded than the second part of the month, which will see full summer crowds.

For the most hassle-free touring, be sure to download our wait-time apps before you head to the parks. It now includes Fastpass return times, so you can plan even better! Getting to the park before opening is always a good idea, but it's even more crucial when crowd levels are high. (Wanna know the SECRET to avoiding Disney World CROWDS? Here it is!)

To make your planning easier, our Crowd Calendar is available a full year out! We recommend you check the Crowd Calendar when you begin planning your trip to find the best travel dates and then revisiting it again as you get closer to your actual trip to pick the recommended park by day.

Weather at Disney World in June

Weather, rainTemperatures are on the rise in June, with an average high of 92, a low of 66 and high rainfall chances. It's a good idea to pack a few ponchos because storms can move in very quickly, but the good news is that it generally rains for only an hour or two (usually in the afternoons) and then clears up. Here is the packing list for this time of year.

Hi Adriana,

Sunday is marked as a busier day on our crowd calendar in general, but Universal and Islands of Adventure are both marked as recommended parks.

That said, the summer concert series draws a big crowd to Universal, but if you're not interested in the band it's an excellent time to visit Islands of Adventure, which should see fewer crowds.

You could spend the day at Universal and move over to Islands of Adventure in the evening that Saturday.

Best,

We are visiting in June this year from 6/9-6/13. We know this is a crowded time to visit and are concerned about not be able to have fun and getting stressed. There are 4 in our party, the two kids are 11 & 14. Any good advice to helping us have a great time would be greatly appreciated.

FYI - We are staying offsite. We plan on going to Universal and Magic Kingdom.

Hi Jimmy,

I think it helps to go in with the understanding that it is going to be crowded, but that doesn't mean you won't have fun! We've routinely made the trip during summertime ourselves and know from experience that if you pick the recommended park for that day and get to said park at opening, you'll still be able to tour with fewer crowds.

Best,

We are planning a trip for the summer 2015. We are going with another family( 4 kids total...8,7,5,3). We have never been to any of the Parks before. We want to pick the park that would have the most stuff for the kids to do, we assume that would be Magic Kingdom is that correct? We are only going one day. Is there a certain day of the week that is less crowded? I know it is the summer so it is going to be crowded but is one day of the week any better then the others? Also, any tips on how to save money on ticket prices? We will have 4 adults and 4 kids.

Thanks so much.

Hi Catherine,

Magic Kingdom is definitely the park to visit if you've only got one day, particularly with the age groups of your kids. You can follow our Crowd Calendar to see specific recommendation by day, but generally Wednesday and Thursday are preferred at Magic Kingdom during the summer months.

Hi Sonia,

For your age group, I'd suggest all of the mountains for sure — Space Mountain, Splash Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. I'd also recommend the newest attraction, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. You can find more resources in our Orlando Planning Guide.

Planning on taking my grand daughter aged 3 to Disney between June 5-8th 2015. Won't be doing much on the 5th as flying in from UK. Advice on best parks for a 3 year old and her 68 years young Grandma. Are we also able to buy a one day ticket? Thanks

Hi Jean,

What fun for you and your granddaughter! You certainly can buy a one-day ticket, and if you have one day, you most definitely should visit Magic Kingdom!

Keep hopping!
