San Diego Padres Team Overview
The San Diego Padres joined the National League (NL) and completed their inaugural season in 1969. As one of two Major League Baseball (MLB) teams originating in California (the other being the Los Angeles Angels, as all other current California teams had relocated from different states), the Padres play their home games in San Diego — and specifically at Petco Park since 2004. The Padres regularly compete against their NL West opponents including their biggest rival, the Los Angeles Dodgers, as well as the San Francisco Giants, Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks.
Despite going all the way to the World Series and winning NL pennants twice in 1984 and 1998, the Padres are still awaiting their first World Series Championship. They have also won five NL West division titles and two Wild Card berths. San Diego Padres Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn, “Mr. Padre,” stayed with the team for his entire 20-season career, which was rare for players in his era. Other notable former players include Trevor Hoffman, Randy Jones and Dave Winfield. Today, the 2024 Padres roster boasts All-Stars Manny Machado and Fernando Tatis Jr.

San Diego Padres Schedule
The San Diego Padres schedule follows the typical 162-game MLB season, which starts late March or early April and ends in September. If the Padres make the playoffs, the postseason continues through October. Games are played in a series of three (though sometimes two or four) at a time, and alternate weekly between home and away locations. The Padres go up against the NL West teams regularly and every other MLB team at least once.
