Our Guide to Magic Kingdom's Free Transportation Options

by Leap on July 6, 2022 28 Orlando

Walt Disney World truly is a world of its own. With so much to explore, it can be challenging to decide how to get around. Luckily, Magic Kingdom offers free transportation to help you get from one exciting destination to another. Our Frog Family is always looking for ways to maximize time and savings. Using Magic Kingdom's free transportation is frogtastic, especially if you want an efficient and cost-effective way to get around.

For those driving, you'll park at Magic Kingdom parking and then head to the Transportation and Ticket Center. (Rest your froggy legs by taking the parking tram from your car to the "TTC"). From there, you'll take either the monorail or ferry to the Magic Kingdom entrance.

Whether you prefer buses, monorails or ferries, Magic Kingdom has something to get you to every place. Here is an overview of Magic Kingdom's free transportation options!

Our Guide to Magic Kingdom Transportation

You can get between almost any two points within Walt Disney World using a variety of free transportation options, especially if you're staying on-site at a Disney Resort hotel. Even if you're staying off-site, you can utilize the complimentary buses, monorails and more to hop from park to park.

Magic Kingdom Free Transportation to Other Disney Theme Parks

Ticket and Transportation Center - Monorail entrance

To EPCOT: Use the EPCOT monorail from the Transportation and Ticket Center.

To Disney's Hollywood Studios: Use bus service.

To Disney's Animal KingdomUse bus service.

Magic Kingdom Free Transportation to Disney Resort Hotels

Monorail at Disney's Polynesian Resort

To Disney's Contemporary Resort: Take the resort monorail, ferry or walk using the designated walkway.

To Disney's Polynesian Village Resort: Take the resort monorail or ferry.

To Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa: Take the resort monorail, ferry or use the new walkway (though note that it is a longer walk).

To Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground: Take the ferry.

To Disney's Wilderness Lodge: Take the ferry.

To all other Disney Resort hotels: Take the bus.

A note about resort ferries: For Disney World Resort hotels offering a water taxi to Magic Kingdom, bus service may not be regularly available. For example, we've seen buses made available at Fort Wilderness during inclement weather or during busy times, though generally, bus service is not available. Ask a cast member at check-in for the most up-to-date information, including when transportation services begin and end running each day.

Magic Kingdom Free Transportation from Other Resort Destinations

EPCOT monorail

From EPCOT: Use the EPCOT monorail.

From Disney's Hollywood Studios: Take the bus.

From Disney's Animal Kingdom: Take the bus.

From Disney Resort hotels: Magic Kingdom is accessible by monorail, boat or bus from all of Disney's Resort hotels.

On-site Disney Resort hotel guests can now find bus wait times in the My Disney Experience app!

*Note: Most areas throughout Walt Disney World, including Disney theme parks, Disney water parks, resort hotels and the Disney Springs area, are accessible by bus. Some bus routes may require a transfer from one bus to another.

There you have it, frogs! The ins and outs of Magic Kingdom free transportation. The monorail is our preferred way to get to and from the park (especially when we're staying at the Polynesian, our fave!) ... what about you? Tell us your favorite way to hop about Walt Disney World in the comments.

I will being heading to magic kingdom on Christmas Day…I know crazy but I would like to know what is the best way to get to the park from a Disney hotel? Is it better to take a private car or the Disney busses. Would like to be there way before opening. Thanks in advance.

Hi Jen!

If you have your own transportation, that would be our first suggestion (especially if you're staying on-site, since parking is complimentary!). If you don't have your own car, ride share services such as Uber or Lyft would be our next suggestion - they'll be able to get you there earlier than the buses begin running, though there may be some surge pricing. Since Christmas tends to be a busy time, the lines for transportation are also usually pretty busy, so we recommend avoiding if possible. Have a great time!

Hello! I'm going to Disney world for the FIRST time in April and I am BEYOND excited! I'm staying off site and I'm taking an uber or a bus to the Magic Kingdom but I have no idea what the process is like to get to the entrance. Any idea?

Hi Allanah!

We're so excited for you! If you're taking an Uber/Lyft to Magic Kingdom, then you will be dropped off at the Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC). You'll then have to choose either the ferryboat or monorail to get to the park's entrance. If you're taking public bus transportation through Lynx (routes 50 or 56), then you will also be dropped off at the TTC and will have to take either the ferryboat or monorail. But if you're taking Disney bus transportation (say, for instance, you're park hopping and leaving another park to go to Magic Kingdom by a Disney bus), then you will be dropped off at the Disney bus station close to the main entrance (wouldn't have to take the ferryboat or monorail). We hope this helps!

We are staying off-site and are doing a Character breakfast at the Grand Floridian on a day we are not at the parks. Can we park at Magic Kingdom and take a water ferry to the Grand Floridian without entering the Magic Kingdom? Just to make it more "magical" :)

Hi Lisa,

You sure can! Keep in mind that you'll need to pay for parking though.

I will be staying at a hotel which is near universal studios. I will be visiting universal studios and Disney world, but the hotel only offers shuttles to universal studios. I'm considering taking a taxi or uber to Disney world, but I'm concerned about how difficult it would be to catch the same transportation back to the hotel later, because of high demand. What do you suggest? I don't want to get stuck waiting forever with 2 kids. Also, do you know of any affordable shuttle service I could contact? That would be an other option.

Hi Bess!

Because of the high volume of theme park froggies looking to leave the parks later in the evening, there is also a high volume of Ubers and taxis just waiting :) You should have no problem hitching a ride back.

Quoting Wikipedia:

"Prior to December 2013, buses to and from Disney's Animal Kingdom and Disney's Hollywood Studios operated out of TTC instead of the Magic Kingdom bus stop. With the addition of a third bus loop at the Magic Kingdom, these buses moved to the Magic Kingdom and left the TTC without any regular Disney Transport bus routes.[3][4]"

Hi!

I would like to know if the base tickets (staying off-site) give you the chance to use Disney shuttles to move from park to park?

Thanks!

Hi, I purchased a 3-day base ticket and am staying off-site. The resort that I'm staying at has odd arrival and pick-up times, so my plan was to shuttle from park to park using the Disney shuttles. So with the base ticket option, am I allowed to shuttle between Disney parks for free or is that service only for those who purchase the park hopper option?

Yes! We'd definitely recommend using Disney transportation.

Hi Sharyn,

It's best to contact the hotel directly so you will know the specifics. It's important to find out what the pickup and dropoff times are, whether you need reservations for it, and whether the shuttle is going to make multiple stops.

Hi Judi,

I checked the Floridays site, and they do list their transportation options to the parks. We suggest you check directly with the hotel to find out what their transportation hours, destinations and frequency are and whether you need to make reservations.

Hi Angelia,

For sure, you could do this, but it would definitely take more time because of the Downtown Disney re-imagination into Disney Springs. Even without construction, I am not sure it would be worth it.

Best,

Is there any reason, other than convenience, I couldn't park at DownTown Disney for free and take transportation to the park of my choice?

If you have base tickets and staying offsite, can you take the bus to/from the parks to downtown disney. Do you have to show proof that you are staying at one of the wdw resorts?

No, you do not have to show proof.

I assume if you are staying offsite, if you have a 1 day park hopper you can take the monorail from MK to Epcot

Paul, That's correct. Guests with Park Hopper tickets can use complimentary theme park transportation from one park to another, including the monorail between Magic Kingdom and Epcot. -Leap
