We froggies love green endeavors! Six Flags Entertainment Corporation has partnered with Solar Optimum and DSD Renewables to launch a massive solar energy initiative in its California parks. Six Flags announced the installation of a new, 12.37-megawatt solar carport and energy storage system at Six Flags Magic Mountain in Los Angeles.
This project marks the most substantial single-site commercial renewable energy project in California, as well as the largest solar project allocated toward a for-profit organization in the United States. As a huge stepping stone in the use of sustainable energy, the new installations are expected to produce 20.8 million kilowatt hours of energy annually (which is equivalent to the electricity consumption of 2,874 homes and 1.79 million smartphones charged), offset greenhouse gas emissions significantly and reduce carbon dioxide — amongst other benefits.
Additionally, two other Six Flags parks — Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Northern California and Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey — have also embraced fully functional on-site solar energy systems. These three sites will contain the highest volume of on-site Solar PV systems for any U.S. organization, with a combined total of 42.37 megawatts.
Psst ... your favorite frogs are offering Six Flags tickets at a discount! Currently, you can save up to $17 per ticket at Six Flags Fiesta Texas in San Antonio using the GoCity pass! Other parks are coming soon, so stay tuned!
