What Is the UFC?
Owned and operated by Zuffa — an American sports promotion company that specializes in MMA — the UFC is the largest Pay-Per-View event provider in the world and the largest MMA promotion in the world. The company showcases 12 different weight divisions (eight men's and four women's) and abides by the Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts. Since Dana White took over as president in 2001, the organization has grown into a global multi-billion-dollar enterprise.
UFC fights are three to five rounds lasting three minutes each (with one-minute rest intervals in between rounds) and are scored by three judges on a 10-point scale. Fights must end either by submission, knockout, technical knockout, decision, disqualification, forfeit or in a no-contest.
