The Most Festive Universal Studios Hollywood Holiday Treats & Eats

by Mommy Frog on December 14, 2016
Los Angeles

'Tis the season for festive snacking. While the twinkling lights and merry music delight my froggy eyes and ears, my favorite sense to use during this season is taste. Universal Studios Hollywood has crafted some festive holiday feasts and tasty treats for visitors to warm their bellies and hands with. I had the opportunity to hop over to Southern California to personally try some of these holiday delights. I know, it's a tough assignment.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter Holiday Treats & Eats

Warm. Delightful. Great. This was the Butterbeer that I imagined as I read the books. Drop into Hog’s Head or The Three Broomsticks with your friends on a crisp winter day and let hot Butterbeer soothe your soul, warming you up from the inside. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios Hollywood has introduced hot Butterbeer to their restaurant and pub menus, and it is just how you want it to be—warm, smooth butterscotchy goodness with a hint of shortbread that arrived just in time for the holiday season. While Los Angeles might reach highs in the 60s on its coldest of days, you can let the snow on the rooftops of Hogsmeade fool you into thinking that you have entered a magical winter town in England. One where everyone carries wands, that is.

While you are there getting your Butterbeer buzz on (yes it is still non-alcoholic—stay in the fantasy with me), I hope you have brought your appetite because there are some new menu items introduced this holiday season at The Three Broomsticks. The house elves have worked up a new Specialty Chicken Sandwich. This ale and honey grilled chicken breast is topped with bacon, cheddar cheese, and roast tomatoes with tarragon aioli spread on a brioche bun. It comes with a choice of salad or potato wedges.

If you are visiting with a group of four or more, indulge in the hearty Holiday Feast. Begin your meal with a course of roasted butternut squash soup. Then dive into the main course of beef wellington (beef tenderloin wrapped in puff-pastry crust) served with a tarragon aioli sauce. It is served family-style with roast turkey, gravy, stuffing, roast sweet potatoes, dried cherries and winter vegetables.

Save some room for dessert. The new Eton Mess is delightful, and this mom gives it her seal of approval for NOT making a mess. You can buy this strawberry whipped dessert with hidden chunks of crunchy meringue inside it for one or for many. You might stick with a single serving to share though, since the other food makes for a filling feast. The other desserts are also especially tasty such as the sticky toffee pudding. Read about other magical morsels here.

Grinchmas Holiday Treats & Eats

I was rather full from my festive dining at the Wizarding World, but I knew I had more tasty holiday treats fit to leave out for Santa in other areas of the park. Who can forget about Grinchmas (get it....who...they're Whos... too much)? If you make your way to Grinchmas, you find some special Who-Bilicious Treats. You can follow your nose to fresh mini donuts, festively sprinkled in red and green sugar. Grinchy-green is the theme for treats such as a Christmas tree crisped rice treat or Grinch cotton candy. There are other baked goods to choose from as well. If only your appetite could grow three sizes that day. Warm up with a holiday beverage as you watch the nightly Whoville tree lighting with peppermint mocha, holiday hot chocolate, or other warm drinks.
