Overview of the Utah Jazz
The Jazz team played its first game in 1974. Originally based in New Orleans — where the team got its musical name — the team moved to Utah in 1979. The Jazz compete in the NBA as a member of the Northwest Division of the Western Conference. Legendary Jazz players include Karl Malone and John Stockton, who became iconic figures for the franchise and left a lasting mark on the game of basketball.
The Jazz have a rivalry with the Houston Rockets that goes back to the 1990s. Other rivals include the Los Angeles Lakers and the Portland Trail Blazers. Any fans watching the Jazz in the Finals in 1997 and 1998 may have hard feelings toward the Chicago Bulls, who won the championship in both those years.
The Jazz have a dedicated fan base that flocks to the Delta Center in Salt Lake City. The Delta Center (formerly known as Vivint Arena) is also a popular spot to watch concerts, comedy shows and Disney on Ice. The team has played there since the 1991-92 season.
