What Is the WWE?
Owned by third-generation wrestling promoter Vince McMahon, the WWE is the biggest name in professional wrestling. While the dialogue is scripted and the matches are predetermined, the athleticism required to be a WWE Superstar — and the injuries they sustain while fighting — are all very real.
Each of the company's brands (i.e. Raw, Smackdown and NXT) hosts a weekly match that's performed in front of a live audience and broadcast to millions of viewers worldwide. Superstars assigned to the main roster — Raw and Smackdown — almost exclusively compete on the weekly television program. The Raw brand also has a supplementary streaming program: Main Event. Monthly pay-per-view and live-streaming events feature Superstars from both brands.
NXT is WWE's developmental brand where newer wrestlers perform to be potentially promoted to the main roster. NXT Superstars also almost exclusively compete on the main television program. Additionally, they compete on the brand's online supplementary streaming program, Level Up, as well as in major live-streaming events held periodically throughout the year.
