Charles Playhouse

74 Warrenton Street, Boston, MA

Owned and operated by Broadway In Boston, the Charles Playhouse has been a distinct pillar of Boston's Theatre District since its conception. Previously serving as a church, a synagogue, a Prohibition speakeasy and a nightclub, it first became a part of the world of theater in 1958 when it was named home to The Actors Company. Showcasing works by Brecht, O’Neill, Pirandello and Tennessee Williams over the years, The Charles Playhouse has seen stars-to-be grace the stage, including Al Pacino, Jill Clayburgh and Jane Alexander.

Home to the critically acclaimed Blue Man Group for more than 25 years, the venue has an approximately 500-seat mainstage and a 200-seat second stage branded as the comedy club Lil Chuck. The second stage previously hosted "Shear Madness" for 40 years, one of the longest runs in American theater history.
