Boston Tea Party Ships and Museum Details

Go Straight to the Gate!

This award-winning museum is highly recommended for families who want to learn and experience more about American history in a fun, interactive environment right on the waterfront.

Travel back in time to December 16, 1773 and prepare to relive one of the most monumental events in the history of America. It was on this night that a group of colonists organized what is now known as the Boston Tea Party. In fact, the group was so enraged by what they considered to be unfair taxation laws that they reacted by hurling more than 300 crates of tea into the harbor in protest. This emblematic moment in history has been said to represent one of the first events which led to the American Revolutionary War. Discover the floating Boston Tea Party Ships (‘tall ships”) and museum where you will see authentically restored replicas of the original tea ships and an array of fully-interactive exhibits. Re-enact the momentous occasion as Museum Guides take on their roles as indignant colonists – throwing tea overboard! See an original tea chest that’s been passed down over the generations. Watch an informative documentary film entitled “Let It Begin Here” in the Minuteman Theatre. Then hop over to Abigail's Tea Room & Terrace for a spot of tea and some delicious treats. This experience provides an authentic, educational and entertaining look into this remarkable time in American History. Oh and there’s a cool gift shop too.
