After teaching herself to sing and play piano and guitar, Brandi Carlile began performing in Seattle music clubs, released several singles and gained the attention of Rolling Stone. Her live performances are known to be electric and to showcase this, her second album was recorded in an 11-day session to capture this essence, leading to the iconic voice crack in the hit single "The Story".
