Pensive rapper and producer J. Cole first gained attention with his debut mixtape, The Come Up, in 2007 and, after signing as the first artist to Jay-Z's Roc Nation label, he went double platinum with his lead single "Work Out” from his follow up mixtape, The Warm Up. He saw a string of No. 1 albums with his next releases, including Grammy-nominated 2014 addition, Forest Hills Drive. Citing Tupac, The Notorious B.I.G., Nas and Jay-Z as his greatest influences, J. Cole is a favorite among hip-hop fans for his storytelling raps with an emphasis on lyricism, interesting rhyme schemes and self-produced tracks.
