The first musician outside of jazz and classical music to earn a Pulitzer Prize for Music, Kendrick Lamar is an American rapper and songwriter that is regarded by many to be one of the greatest rappers of all time and the most influential hip-hop artist of his generation with an intense focus on his songwriting. Previously known under other names like K.Dot and as a part of Black Hippy, Lamar rose to fame with his conceptual gangsta rap-influenced second album Good Kid, M.A.A.D City, which became the longest-charting hip-hop studio album in the Billboard 200's chart history. Since then he has infused an album with historical jazz and funk while staying rooted in West Coast hip-hop, written music for the Black Panther soundtrack, feuded with Drake and been awarded a slew of accolades including 17 Grammy Awards, six (6) Billboard Music Awards and 11 MTV Video Music Awards.
