Herman Melville's sea-drenched, heaven-storming epic is adapted to take the stage as we follow the journey of the whaling ship Pequod, as the captain seeks vengeance against Moby Dick, the giant whale that bit off his leg on the ship's previous voyage.
A cast of standouts comes together on the decks of the Pequod, with tenor Brandon Jovanovich starring as the monomaniacal Captain Ahab, implacable in his pursuit of the white whale. Tenor Stephen Costello is cast as Greenhorn, the opera's version of Ishmael, baritone Peter Mattei as the even-keeled first mate Starbuck, bass-baritone Ryan Speedo Green as the Polynesian harpooneer Queequeg, soprano Janai Brugger as Pip, tenor William Burden as Flask and baritone Malcolm MacKenzie as Stubb.
Following the haunting Met premiere of his first opera, "Dead Man Walking", composer Jake Heggie returns with maestro Karen Kamensek and staging by Leonard Foglia bringing the score to life. Following acclaimed runs in Dallas, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C, the epic tale returns to the Metropolitan Opera House - Lincoln Center more refined and larger than life.
Run Time: Three (3) hours and 10 minutes, including one (1) intermission
