
Palace Theatre
Facing all the glittering billboards, the Palace Theatre is a Broadway theater on Times Square. While the theater opened originally in 1913, it was closed for an extensive time from 1987 to 1991 for renovations. The three-level, 1,648-seat auditorium is the only original surviving space, protected in part by its designation as a New York City landmark.
“Playing the Palace” is considered a mark of success and entertainment royalty like Ethel Barrymore, Harry Houdini, Judy Garland and Diana Ross have all taken the stage at the Palace Theatre. Over the years this Broadway theater has also been home to many beloved Broadway productions, including “SpongeBob SquarePants: The Broadway Musical”, “Legally Blonde” and “Beauty and the Beast”.
