Carnegie Hall - Stern Auditorium
Covering the entire block of the city corner in Midtown Manhattan, Carnegie Hall is a stately concert venue that has been serving the New York community for over a century. Designated a National Historic Landmark in 1962 largely in part to the work of violinist Issac Stern, the building dodged demolition in the 1950s. The main hall was renamed to Stern Auditorium in 1997 to honor his efforts in preserving this historical cultural center. With such a storied past, the Carnegie Hall Archives were added in 1986 and the Rose Museum, which details the history of the venue, was added in 1991.
With 3,671 seats spread across three (3) separate auditoriums, there is no shortage of seats for each ribbiting performance. The Main Hall, Stern Auditorium, contains five (5) levels with 2,804 seats and was the former home of the New York Philharmonic. It has been showcasing some of the best classical music talent since 1891 and helped to establish Carnegie Hall as one of the most prestigious classical music venues in the world.
