Carnegie Hall - Zankel Hall
The stately Carnegie Hall, stretched out across an entire city block in an L-shaped building, has been a ribbiting concert venue in Midtown Manhattan for over a century. Designated as a National Historic Landmark, this famous building was almost set for demolition in the 1950s but has survived the test of time.
Zankel Hall, named for a couple that funded a major renovation for the venue, contains 599 seats, with most on the orchestra level and the remaining seats on a mezzanine balcony. It was the first auditorium to open to the public in 1891 and is the second-largest performance space in Carnegie Hall. With several configurations possible and praised as “a luxury version of a black-box theater”, Zankel Hall is often utilized for classical performances as well as pop, jazz and world music concerts.
